Bank Choices

What is anyone's prefered bank that they use? I have heard that TFC sucks, Don't know about Wells Fargo. I havent had any problem with my bank which is TCF but I am just curious as to what everyone uses.

Re: Bank Choices

I've used USBank for the last 8 years and with locations all over, ATMs with no fee's in almost every Holiday station, and no hassles I'd say I would suggest them to anyone.

Wells fargo has a really sweet online banking thing that allows you to manage and transfer money online. My vote is for wells fargo, then again it's the only bank I've been with.

Re: Bank Choices

TCF has terrible customer service and is overall the worst branch banking choice in the area. Wells Fargo is decent, but I really don't agree with their business model and practices. USBank is by far my favorite in the area, their customer service is top-notch and they offer .25% cash-back on all purchases made with your check card.

I've been with all 3; I absolutely hated TCF and had nothing but poor service. Wells Fargo was ok...nothing really too bad but also nothing stellar that made them stand out. USBank has been really good to me, when I do have problems they are easy to deal with. The cash-back is nice too since its something no other bank offers...its not much, but its better than nothing. Last year it was enough to basically earn me a few free tanks of gas.

Re: Bank Choices

Owatonna's Hometown Credit Union is my main bank but I did open up an account at TCF here in Mankato just so I could cash checks and whatnot. I hate big banks, would much rather have my credit union here.

I didnt know they did that. I use my check card for everything and it would be worth it to me to have my checks deposited there instead.

Bye bye TCF. I agree their service sucks. Everytime I cash a check there is one teller there but 10 different windows that are empty. Kinda like WalMart.

Just wait until they make a mistake with your money and you try to get it fixed...I was out a couple thousand dollars for about 2-3 months once and once it did get all straightened out they didn't offer me a single thing. That same day I shut down my account and had they cut me a check that I took straight to USBank.

Re: Bank Choices

TCF couldn't get my whole FREE CHECKS thing down. I just gave up on it and paid the 20 dollars for my checks. My favorite bank was Bank of America, but I had to give them up becaue they're not in MN. I have Wells Fargo now, and it's OK but doesn't compare to Bank of America.

For loans, I use Navy Federal Credit Union. It's only for military members, but is awesome for loans.

Re: Bank Choices

USBank also has all the online banking and bill pay options. We don't do the cash back option, we actually get the air miles for flights. Jana can shed some light on how we are doing on that.

Re: Bank Choices

I'm pretty happy with US Bank. Been with them for 8 years. I actually have the WorldPerks check card, so I earn miles. I used to have the Cash Back, and earned quite a bit.

Oh, and they also have great online access, with free bill pay. Easy to transfer money, make payments, etc.

i use wells fargo
and their online system makes it worth it. Their email customer service is pretty good aswell.

i'd like some better customer rewards, but I guess they did just start a check card thing that I can enroll in.
cash back would be nice

Re: Bank Choices

Fuck banks. Credit unions all the way. I'm a member of the CU that Tim mentioned, as well as one located in the Cities here. I've gotten loans from them both with less than perfect credit with zero hassle. Depending on where you live you can get into almost any credit union.

Here are some links, check them out:
www.sourceonecu.com - The one I'm a member of, can get in if you live or work in their selected area.
www.tcuconnect.com - Pretty wide open membership requirements.
www.hometowncu.coop - The CU in Owatonna, been a member there for many years. Use for comparison.

Re: Bank Choices

Does USBank make you have a minimum balance in a savings account? I am starting to get a little interested in them from what I am seeing.

Re: Bank Choices

One more thing... No minimum balances on accounts, and very small fees if you screw up. And the people working at credit unions don't hate life. Of the two credit unions I've been two and among the 4 different branches, I have yet to meet someone who you'd think should be working in a bank instead. They're there to help you and your money, not to put in their 8 hours and go home.
