99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
This one should really stir the pot a bit with some of the members here.
A lot of people know I've wanted a Silver 99 GSX for some time now and have been in the process of looking since I'm not too far out from being able to buy if things keep going in the right direction. Jana has never been to keen on the idea of getting another DSM, ever.
But since being around Josh's Stealth and getting a ride in CVD's VR4 she was like a little school girl and really wants a 3S now. A TT one at that and said she will now learn how to drive stick for it.
So looking for each car is pretty much none stock shape which should we go for. To me I love the 3S, but they are harder to work on and cost a solid amount more. I also love the 2G though, but they don't hold value like a 3S would. I guess this is more for Jana since if I had a choice it's be a DSM over a 3S, but with it going to be "our" car, I'd love for people who know more about both to chime in.
And for those who have owned 9 DSMs, this is not the thread for you

If you go with a 2g, get a 97/98 Talon.
If you go with a 3S, get a Stealth not a 3kGT.
These are my personal opinions of which ones are sexier

Did you not read? What part of "99 GSX" didn't you get? Was it the 99 or the GSX? Do I need to get started on the whole 3000GT VR4 debate? It's not a question of what we would get, it's 96/97 VR4 or 99 GSX. ONe or the other, not a variation.

Jana AJ needs sex or a new magazine ASAP.
I would take the 99 GSX hands down.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
Being an owner of both, I prefer the DSM (talon) as a DD and ease of modifying, but the 3s (stealth) is a fun car for cruising with. But if you don't fab stuff the cost of just parts is $ compared to a DSM. Look at http://www.3sxperformance.com/ for some examples of parts cost, granted it's new parts.
A note though: A stealth would be cheaper than a 3000gt because of the domestic name badge, same goes for the insurance. BTW A 2g stealth with a 99 VR4 bumper = hawtness.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
Personally I'd take a '99 silver GSX (preferbly with black leather) any day over a 3S because of the looks and friendlier engine bay. However, if you're in the market for a 3S, call up Novak, as not too long ago Brandt said Novak was possibly going to sell his Stealth.

Man, it's hard to beat a 99 gsx, black on black rims with polish lip and just a slight drop is all you need. Oh yea, I will continue to steal more of your money if you keep on messing with my post :P.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
That White Stealth is PIMP!!!!
My take on this is simple. I'm getting older now. I now have a wife and a baby. And my tastes are now starting to lean to luxury. The 3's is sexy. DSM's are just a Car to abuse.
OH did anyone get how much swanny has into his stealth? I'm curious to see just how much of a price difference between DSM performance and 3's are.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
I bet its a lot. This is a hard survey to answer really. It should have a claus in it regarding goals for the cars in question. 2G DSMs have been proven to run fast times with regularity. If you want to take a car and mod it to run 10s then the GSX is the obvious choice. If you want to leave it stock or mildly mod it for the occasional highway pull then I go for the 3S. The 3S has not proven itself to be durable enough to run good times at the track.
When Swanny takes that 500+whp on pump gas and launches the fuck out it at the track and it pulls a 1.7 60' and holds together without stripping out the transfer case I am all for them. Either way they are sweet looking and handling cars.
But I still would get the 99 GSX.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
Is this a serious question? Of course get the 99 GSX. Why would you want a heavier-more-expensive-to-maintain DSM-like car . They'll both break and cause headaches.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
I'll never need a car that runs any faster that mid to high 12s on race gas.
I'm not worried about the insurance variance like someone under 25 might be.
A 3S seems like the right choice for me if I wanted a nice cruising spring/summer/fall car, but I don't know much about the reliability and where they tend to be spendy. I'm probably gonna spend the next month or so on 3Si reading.

The choice is yours. Remember one of the main rules about buying a car: Don't buy it if you can't afford the maintenance.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
I spent as much on my teal DSM as what my VR4 cost. I got $6k back out of the DSM, I'm sure I'll get much more than that out of the VR4. The VR4 has also gone about 6 months of driving without any maintenance issues whatsoever. I dont think the DSM ever made it 6 months without problems.

How about a $18k Evo. There's quite a few of those running around for sale.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
I've owned nine dsm's allen, and I know 3000GT's are over all way nicer cars. I think they look better, faster stock, and just sexy. However I can't afford those cars so I probably won't have one for a long time.

Re: 99 GSX vs 96/97 3000GT VR4
I'd take the 2G 3/S over the 2G DSM if I were to get back into the Mitsu game. 3/S's are a total step-up in every aspect: more durable, more power, better looks, sound better, a lot nicer interior, better handling, etc. They will cost you more though so keep that in mind (modding, gas, insurance, repairs, etc.).

I know where there's a real nice 97 GSX with about 530whp in mods and low miles, mint condition. I had to pass on it.

The stealth would be my choice and it sounds like what you're leaning towards... and for the right reasons.
