50 trim oil feed restrictor
ok, i need to get a PTE oil feed line restrictor, will this work on it?

I'd be interested to know what kind of a pressure drop they see with that fitting; better yet, with knowing the dimensions of the fitting, oil weight, and the maxiumum volumetric flowrate of the oil pump, the exit pressure/pressure drop could be calculated.

Those are for dual ball-bearing GT turbos that are water cooled and don't require much oil. You might want to drill the hole out a bit, if you wanted to run something like that on a journal bearing turbo.

Do you need one of those for dual ball bearing cars? I have one car with a ball bearing turbo and one without. I heard it is better to run the turbo feed line off the oil filter housing. Does it make a big difference between running it off the oil filter housing vs the head? I don't want to ruin a good turbo by starving it of oil. If I could get by, I would want to run it off the head for a SBR 60-1 and even for my GT35R if I could get by. I planned on using the filter housing but doing it off the head would save time. Sorry for hijacking the thread.

I have read that PTE won't warranty a turbo if it is has an oil line coming off the head. Could someone back me up on this?

I don't know but I had email PTE on this subject many times in the past few months and no response from them. All I know is that they don't reccommend restrictors on there turbos and the oil line needs to come off the turbo housing.

Oil pressure from the head is lower, which can be a good or bad thing. Oil pressure from the oil filter housing can be insanely high, if you removed the balance shafts. Oil from the head is right at the end of the oiling system, so it isn't necessarily the cleanest oil you could be pumping into the turbo.
Garrett cartridge dual ball-bearing turbos don't require or like too much oil. Because they use less oil, they have to be watercooled to remove some of the heat from the center section. A lot of the DBB turbos come with a restrictor already built into the turbo, but with how high the oil pressure can get on a DSM at high RPMs, you probably should add another restrictor. FP sells a filter with a restrictor built into it for DBB turbos.

Just give em a call.
I have a PTE SCM5031E and asked if I needed a restrictor, what size feed line, and where I should feed the turbo from. The answers?
Do NOT use a restrictor.
-4an feed line
Feed the turbo from the oil filter housing.
I also made him aware that my BS's were removed etc.
That's it.

so for a ball bearing turbo, it is better to run it off the head with a restrictor and for a non ball bearing one it is better to run it off the filter housing?
shane- do you mean the oil in the head isn't the cleanest since it is at the end of the cycle? I would think it would be dirtier.

Yep, I missed a word there. I meant it wasn't the cleanest. The size of the restrictor you run depends on where you run the oil feed from.

well here is my reason, i notice oil burning on the outside of the housing leaking from the cartridge..so i know thats where my exhaust smoke is coming from.
The oil is conected from the oil filter housing, not the head.
and i do have my balance shafts removed/turned down
