It's funny to go and pull up to an E-85 pump and the instore goes "does your car take that stuff?!"
Wait.....so are you running stock internal dsm fuel components and you are seeing no problems? I never believed that bs about it "corroding" aluminum....but you never know...
so are all DSMs just a A/F adjustment away from running e85?

And a time bomb for lines to just disapear on you.
It does eat up the DSM gas lines, but it takes some time. If you want, run the fuel, or about a 1/4 tank to find out. If it is bad you can always pump the tank and just run a little rough for a while. It won't mess up your O2 sensor, they had a few bad batches when it first started coming out that scared everyone away. They had too much water in it, and was fouling up O2 sensors even on vehicles equiped to run it.
From what I understand e85 will take a long ass time to corrode lines and dry out seals. It isnt nearly as corrosive as Methanol but since they are both alchohols people tend to associate them both as a big no no for stock fuel systems.

Main problem is tuning, it will probably break some seal on these older DSM's with stock lines and O-rings. But for the normal, or "New" parts. You should have some time on them.
Talking on another form about running a N/A car with E-85 for hp gains.... can we say 11:1 compresion ratio?

I am fully aware of the risk, and if it corrodes throught my stock fuel line, I shall just run a new SS one..... thank you tim for clearing up the methanol/ethanol differences.
So, -IF- i was gonna do this, would a SAFC1/2 work? from what I can remember you can load up 2 different fuel maps, depending on what fuel you are running.
So, is it that easy? just a safc re-tune?
one additional point, as I understand it, there is alot of clay and other anti-engine sediments in standard gasoline, and ethanol has (almost) none.....so engine wear is going to be cut way back......I spose nobody cares here because we rebuild our engines periodically anyways ;)

11:1 isn't that high for an import. S2000s come stock at 11:1 compression ratio and add boost to those on pump gas. I have tuned 12.5:1 compression dail driven pump gas Honda's before. The gain from going that high really isn't worth it though. The power returns diminish more and more as you go higher and higher.

Along with an SAFC you'll need injectors, i'd go 650+ since you'll have the safc to control them, 190 or larger to help get the extra fuel you'll need.
With that you'll be running ethanol in your car, and just have to wait for the lines to corode away. If they do that is, havn't found solid proof it will. Only speculation and proof that alcohol does.

Stupid zombie thread, I started reading the first page and saw a post from mike (raptor) and I thought it was private eye time.

I finally have a sig with information on my car so people can stop assuming im a freaken noob (all my fault)
So yeah, after I get all the oil leaks fixed on my car its gonna be time for the e85

Does E85 not ignite like gasoline? Replacing a fuel line is one thing, but what if your car starts on fire before you notice you have a problem?
