$500 deductable, if you make a claim your rates go up so you end up paying to fix your car anyways, and it's 40% value on anything that's stolen/broken/etc.

ex: I had 250 cd's stollen. I bought then in a 5 month time frame. (back then I basically lived in my car, Paid $12-$15 for each CD they gave me $4 for everyone of them. And I had to have the "Case's" for all of them.

Samething if you had a stereo you have to have the reciept, aftermarket rims (need a reciept),etc, etc.

I think that some people on the road need the high coverage. Just think Brian. How many accidents have you gotten into (I remember of hearing of 3 the last few months). How much money did they have to dish out in them? I think of insurance as an investment. If you didn't have to pay insurance, imagine how much it would suck if you got into an accident? From what I can tell about you online, you live paycheck to paycheck. How would you deal with a $2500 debt to someone when you plow into their car? Imagine some of the serious accidents that occur like a car crashing into a house or something. Are you going to be able to foot the cash for all the damages you caused? How much do you think you would have to pay if you were in a serious accident and had to be in the hospital for a week? Could you afford that? Yes, it sucks paying insurance but we need it. They provide us a service. Some of us (you) just need it more than others. I am sure I am going to get in an accident sometime. They only way I see him getting mod money is if he decides to fix only part of the car or not at all. Knowing how much they love their cars, I assume they want it fixed perfectly. If they want some extra money, they shouldn't fix everything.

As far as your cd's go, that is your fault. You were "living" in your car so it is easy to see you have alot of possesions in it. If I were a thief, I would choose your car with shit all over than a car which looks empty. With the money involved in some of our cars, an alarm should be included. The old integra was broken into and everything was covered except the nitrous bottle. They gave me a new cd player and everything. The only time I recieved or expected money was when my 86 accord was smashed. Since I didn't fix it, I kept the money for the repairs.

One thing to keep in mind about where the fault lays. Minnesota is a "no fault" state. So even if it was obviously the other drivers fault, in parking lots, both drivers are to blame. If the other driver is honest and tells there insurance company it was there fault, the other insurance may pay all of it, but I wouldn't count on it. Your insurance will probably end up paying a good portion of your claim. What really sucks about that, is it might actually raise your rates because of this. So just be aware of that.

If an accident happens out on the street, one party can be 100% at fault. But in parking lots, thats not the case. Just a dumb Minnesota law.

92TSIAWD - not to be an ass but I've never been in any accidents.

average less then 1 ticket a year.

The 3 accidents you speak of were minor and no to light damage was done to my car only. (minor damage to front fendor from the steering control arm coming off causing the wheel to bend the inner fender) None of which wer claimed and the total cost of all damages was $300 (my cost for a new rear differencial)

Also for for my CD's I had a $1200 alarm in my car. And everything was stolen while it was in the Care of Tires PLus. I wasn't "Living" in my car I was working 120hr weeks so I felt like I was "living" in it because of all the driving I had to do from job to job. My car from the outside was completely stock. The only stereo equiepment that was visable was my CD player the rest was in a closed trunk. My CD's were under my passenger seat so there is no way they would have known it was there.

I never said we "don't need insurance" what I said was "do onto others as they do to you", and for "Most of us" if we'd actually saved the money we give the insurance company each month we could cover all expense's. ( that would apply for most people, yes "some" people need insurance, I was making a point, and if you apply it yourself you'll get an understanding of what kind of driver you actually are. if you actually need insurance due to things you cause then you are a bad driver but for those of use that haven't been in any accidents or any that were our fault at least then that also tells you something.

The only reason Eric is getting everything fixed hassle free is because it wasn't his fault and someone else has fessed up to it. Meaning that there insurance company is going to pay for it not Eric's in the long run.

For instance I carry Full cover at all times even if my car is down.

when My renter took a hammer to my car I approched the insurance company with it. But I asked what would be my consquences since she won't admit she did it to anyone of athority.

$500 deductable - and there were going to drop my from the insurance after words. (I had 1 ticket in 3years at this time and never had a claim prior)

We had a house fire when I was a kid. was a total loss. But here's how the insurance company figured things.

We bought the house for $65,000 when we had the house fire it was appraised at $500,000 but because they hadn't changed there paper work to reflect the appraisal of $500,000 on the teckincality they only had to pay $65.000 (wasn't our fault it was there's but still my parents got shafted)

Also my Mother kept detail records and all reciepts of all our assets in a Fire proof lock box at all times. Our total assets inside the house = $250,000

Even with all reciepts etc, - the insurance company only gave us $40,000 back.

And we carry full cover on everything.

Seriously if it's every your fault or there is no-one else to blaim then your screwed. And since your going to be taking it up the ass from them might as well give a little back.

-PS: you can also thank your insurance company for all the nice Police radar guns, etc. Insurance company's give money to aid in better Police Traffic management stuff like radar guns why? because for every ticket they can raise rates. So in the long run they get paid more.

Actually, no matter where it happens, you are always at least 5-10% at fault for being there in the first place. But yeah, usually in a parking lot it is 50-50. As long as you are not found more than 50% at fault, your insurance will not go up. I have had 2 50-50 accidents in my life and neither raised my rates. Both were substantial damage with the last one totalling my car.

As an update, the car is totalled. She took it down for the complete inspection today and they found some more damage that causes the total to be near the value of the car. Basically they found out that there was more damage to the rear quarter panel and the frame of the door is tweeked (not the frame of the car but the frame of the door) than what they first saw so the door has to be replaced rather than repaired. We'll know more in the next few days.

92tsiawd84----We don't know what we are going to do with the car yet. We may end up fixing some of the stuff ourselves and selling the car. Or we may just let the insurance take it and go buy another one. We don't know yet. We have to wait to see what the final figures are. We both love our cars and have alot of time invested in them. If we do end up getting the car back and some money, we will fix most of what needs to be fixed but we are not going to be putting the rest towards mods. It will go towards a different car, which is what it is intended for. Taking the money and the car with no intention to fix it is not what we intend to do. We are more honest than that. I don't like to screw my insurance company because they have been damn good to me so far. My rates just dropped last month to $86 a month for full coverage on the talon and storage insurance on the CRX. I'm not complaining at all.

**ADMIN EDIT**

Please stick to the topic. If you want to rant about rates, there's a thread on that. Please search for it.

Post up pics of the car if you can. If you don't want to fix it, maybe someone on here will be willing to pay the total value of the car and you will have your money and they will have a cheap car. Sorry to hear that though..

Eric I agree about being honest. For Me it's just about "not being taken advantage of"

Like Jenny's Grand Prix - you guys remember when that guy backed into her car and put it up in Allan's Lawn?

The rear quarter panel was dented and it cracked the tail light. Well the insrance company wouldn't pay for the "cracked Tail light" saying it was still "usable" the tail light was $300 extra.

It's just stuff like this, that gets under myskin about "company's" in general. Call me old fashioned or what not. It's just I fail to grasp how some company's think/act the way they do and are able to get away with it.

Like did you guys here that Mike Hatch is sueing AT&T. AT&T got caught charging people extra money.

I know AT&T isn't the only company doing things like that. I got a phone call from a "Discover Card" on day telling me about all these privelages, etc of a new program they have going on for a 1 time cost of $70.

You basically got discounts on AirFare, Hotel rates, Rental Car, some Gas stations, etc.

So I said sent me the packet so I can "Look at it" - we'll discover charged me $70 and I never recieved the packet I refused to pay and instead called up and complained, they said they'd take car of it, but when I got my next statement I had another $70 charge added to my bill.

I refused to pay that also, Called em up and htey were like sorry, long story short they kept that "Bill" going for 6 months before finally taking it off my credit card. However I wasn't rembured the "Interest" for those charges during that time.

I honestly can't believe the way society is aimed. It's all about the "Money" and nothing about the "people" - You see this every day.

Here at Work - I know some of you heard me complain about this in the past.

3years now they'd denied me a payraise - not even a Cost of living increase.

The first 2 times were understandable due to things happening in the company so I accepted it.

But this last time I was totally expecting compensation for my hard work. Nash actually Claimed they had one of the highest increase's in profit this fiscal year.

But when it came time for raise's - they said "sorry" we aren't doing well enough to give out pay raises. We had 38 managers walk off the job in 1 day.

If it wasn't for the house payment I would have walked off also.

Anyrate enough rambling - Eric I'm glad your company is taking care of you.

I have pics in my gallery but no admins have approved it yet so we can't see them. I also have a few pics of my car in there.

We are going down to get a fender for it tomorrow. Then we have to see what we can do to the other detns. She is contemplating selling it when we fix it. She's not quite sure yet. Once we have everything done to it, the only real problems that it has is a small oil leak in the front cover and has a hard time starting, but has always started. We just have to tapp the gas a few times. We have yet to replace the coolant temp sensor. We have it sitting here, I just haven't got to it yet.

The nice thing about it is that the title never changed hands so it will have a clean title. No salvage tag on it. Honestly, it really shouldn'y anyways since the frame never got tweeked. It's all cosmetic and just alot of labor time to get it back to perfect. We will have it next to perfect when we get done with it.
