I actually started a petition for the eradication of the Minnesota front license plate law about 6-7 years ago. http://www.petitiononline.com/mnplate/petition.html
Just checked 4312 Total Signatures
Cool, now, send that to the transportation committee!

LOL I started that 7 years ago and i still occasionally get emails from people asking if i am going to send that to the representatives. Maybe i will when i get back into a MN Residence.
I dont think they really take online petitions too seriously. In paper they are much better.

well some bad news guys.... guess we'll have to try harder next year...
Dear Michael:
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for House File 1071 which would require vehicles to only have one license plate. I appreciate you taking the time to share your support.
Knowing your interest in this issue, I wanted to drop you a short note to let you know what happened to this proposal. As you may have heard, House File 1071 has not yet passed the committee that has jurisdiction over the measure (the Transportation and Transit Policy and Oversight Division).
The lack of action by the Transportation and Transit Policy and Oversight Division is significant because the rules of the Legislature require that for a policy bill such as HF 1071 to continue to move forward via the normal legislative process, it had to pass all relevant policy committees in the House by April 7. Since HF 1071did not meet that deadline, it looks to be “dead” for this year.
Again, knowing you are interested in this measure, I thought you might like this brief update.
Thank you for contacting me. Please don’t hesitate to write again on this or any other issue of interest to you. I value your input.
Sincerely,
Lyndon Carlson
State Representative

it will never go though. everyone trys each year and the same thing. it was a big deal when 1970 and older cars dont have to have a front plate any more. It may be cheaper to run 1 plate but it gets rid of a aiming mark for laser and radar. I really do see this happing any time soon. All I can see is them getting more people pulled over with no front plates and not being able to get out of it. it is a huge money maker for the state. that is what is all behind it why would they want to get rid of the front plate when they make a ton of money every year on it

Better late than never?
Dear Chris and Anna,
Thank you for your emails supporting a single license plate on the rear of vehicles. I have supported that for a long time, but it doesn't look like HF 1071 even received a hearing this year.
I am very aware of the fact that some vehicles are definitely not made for having front license plates, since I own a 1994 Firebird, which you probably know, comes to a point in the front. I have never had any success in keeping the front license plate solidly secured.
However, when I have brought up the issue in the past, the Department of Public Safety and the State Patrol have strongly opposed any changes to the law.
Thanks again for your emails; I agree with both of you, but it doesn't look like anything is going to change anytime soon.
Sincerely,
Joe Mullery
