Honda Insight. I drive over 100 miles a day and pay less for gas than most people. Car gets over 50 mpg and is comfortable. I am fat and I took it with a friend to Washington, DC this summer (over 18 hour drive) without issues.

I agree with the above people that to me, a dd is a car you will not modify. I have had similar experiences where the further I modify a car, the less reliable it gets, and the more I am working on it. That is what took the fun out of DSMs for me.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while, an insight is a good choice. I figured I would save $3500 per year in gas when gas was $2.30 per gallon. The more gas rose, the more I would save. I have had the car for over 3 years now and haven't had to do anything but tires and oil changes. The car has already paid for it self in gas but I also got $3000 for hail damage which I didn't fix ;) This car is definitely my smartest buy.

I 2nd or 3rd that an evo may be a crappy idea as a DD.

I daily drive my 01 Dodge Stratus Coupe R/t and love it. Basically the same thing as a 3g eclipse gt v6. The build quality is great, everything feels nice and solid, and the seats are comfy as hell. Bought it with 94k on it and it is now at 101k. Drove it to texas and back with zero problems and zero back problems.

Doesn't get great gas mileage though. Dealer says about 21 mpg. I clocked 26 mpg on the trip to Texas and that was with my modified intake. Take that for what it's worth though.
