Well, I'm taking it in tomorrow to get hot tanked and magnafluxed, so today would be the day for checking it ourselves. Otherwise I might have the shop check it since it's there anyway. We'll see and I'll let you know.

This is a good pic of the crack going toward the back of the engine.

I really don't want to get new ARP studs, but I might have to since I used 'em to hoist the engine out, lol.
Shotgun!

G54B cam gear holder > all. That little tab is the best part of the motor.

I will.

Yeah, they knew we'd be taking them apart sooner or later. That's why they put such wide tool trays on the inner fenders.

Nice guess! This is a major bummer:

Only one piston was cracked, but they all have varying degrees of wear on the thrust sides. Enough that I am concerned. But I have already made up my mind to get new pistons. Sad. Plus one of my rods is all discolored on the small end like it was torched. I had one rod "repaired" or refreshed or something when I had it all machined, so I don't know if it's from that or not.
Also, the #1 rod bearing chamfered itself on the rearward edge by rubbing on the crank. My guess there is that when they machined the crank, they kindof forgot to go all the way to the end of the journal. I now have to get the crank checked out. I had seen some metal flecks in the oil a time or two before and didn't worry, but now I know what was doing it. Lame.
This is going to cost way more and take way longer than I thought.

Which piston was that? A little less timing on pump gas next time, that sucks.

Number 4. And yeah, I will definately take out timing, and this build is going to be done much more competently than the last one.

I could probably make money on a 4g63 swap.
