Last week I was driving on the highway, pulled into a gas station, and the clutch felt kind of weird. After filling up and getting back onto the highway the clutch didn't want to engage making it really hard to put the clutch into gear. After hardly being able to drive it, I just pulled over and made a few phone calls. The clutch could be put into first when turned off and then with some force could go into the rest of the gears, but at every stop sign/light i had to turn off the car and put it into 1st/2nd. Right away my friend and I checked the clutch slave cylinder, it engaged properly and worked fine. Next we checked the clutch, we took off the plate that lets you see a little bit into the clutch. What we found was a piece of metal, it fell out as soon as we took off the plate, very skinny, like a razor blade thickness, and on that piece it said "Japan" on it. Now I am in the process of taking out the tranny, it will be out tonight but I was hoping someone could help me with what it might be. I have a 98 GST, Quaife LSD and ACt 2600 clutch. 127,000 on the tranny. My buddy says its not the tranny but he's not 100% sure. The clutch never felt like it was slipping or anything out of the ordinary, the clutch has probably 5000 - 8000 miles on it. thanks

If it is the throwout bearing, you need to replace nothing other than that part alone. I'd be concerned about where that flake of metal came from though.

At least is says Japan on it. If you have the trans off, check endplay on the crank.

It sounds like the another ACT disk fell apart, take the tranny out and there should be some nice broken ACT parts everywhere. South Bend clutch is what we sell/install.

Hey, we're pulling the tranny on a front drive 2g eclipse turbo. We pulled everything thing off to pull the tranny except the upper tranny mount. We don't have a cherry picker to support the motor from the top, all we have to work with are a 3 ton floor jack and a lot of jack stands. We're wondering if anyone knew of any methods to support the motor while we're pulling off the tranny with the tools available to us.

Just let the motor hang untill you can get a jackstand/wood under that side of the oil pan, it should be fine for a little, or put the stand under there and then take the tranny off, either way.
