Ah yeah, I just read that segment again and you guys are right....

"Though Mitsubishi isn't currently fielding a WRC team, it developed the EVO X to meet current FIA Group N homologation restrictions for many privateers around the world that continue to rally the Evo."

Also states the new Evo X is more Audi or Euro tuner than JDM style. Greeat, as soon as we get our USDM Evo they go and turn it into sauerkraut.

Yup, sad but true. The Japanese supercars are dead, and the real (turbo) sport compacts are dying. Now that I can finally afford a brand new sports car, I find myself digging through whats left of the 90's sports cars, hoping to find something clean and unabused.

Keep saving and get an exotic.

If i had money i'd build a kit car, like an FFR Daytona or Cobra coupe. :)

I think based on: open deck aluminum block, paddle shift gear box that who knows how much power it and the clutch can handle, the turbo is now in the back of the motor, so to me the car will be very basic bolt on car. I hope the car can be modified similar to dsm's now, but I doubt it. It should be a good DD but I do not know how much aftermarket will pop up.

This is nonsense. Its an EVO, the aftermarket will be right there to support it. SRT-4's have the turbo in the back, Audi's are no treat to work on, etc. but they all have very strong aftermarket support. A 5 (or 6) speed manual transmission will be available and I'm sure it will be a better design than the current EVO tranny (better shifting, stronger, etc.). I am sure Mitsu is well aware of who their market is and what they want, they won't make the same mistake they made with the Eclipse (financially, they can't afford to).

I agree with Chris on this one. Mitsu I hope knows what they are doing. Granted it looks like a softer car now. But the aftermarket will flood with stuff. Also granted the 7,8, and 9's all had parts before they came state side..., but I think the 10 will pick up quick. Faster then the 3s guys.

The aftermarket support all depends how how much abuse the engine can take. The reason the 4g63 did so well is because they could take 400 hp on stock parts with very few upgrades. Thats why I fell in love with the motor. I don't know if this is because they over enginered the motor or what. This happens to be true with a lot of motors coming from the 90s. I don't think the designers knew how to build the motor, they over built it in case it failed.
Developing the motor is very different today then it was in the past. The manufactures want to cut as many corners as possible to save cost, so now they can build an engine to go to just 275 or 300 and have it very reliable, untill you try to overboost the car. The aftermarket justs depends what the new engine can handle. The RX-8 engine was supposed to be the supream rotory engine but that kind of failed when the turbo kits didn't do anything and the supercharger belt system wouldn't work with the cars pullies.

What they want to do is surpass the Evo 9. That is going to be stock to stock numbers. The X may outperform the Evo 9 however I am thinking if the 9 is modded, it is going to dominate the X.

The problem with the audience today is that everyone wants to buy something affordable that isn't going to break. Example is that toyota doesn't make the supra, mr2 anymore. Mazda did the same with the rotory engine, RX-8 isn't a popular tuner car but i definatly see a lot more RX-8 instead of RX-7s. Remember why mitsubishi changed the Eclipse platform, everyone was buying the GS and the GSXs weren't selling at all. I am wondering if mitsubishi is going the same route with the Evo, making cars for the people instead of racing.
Still too early to tell yet. I am kind of scared though.

The aftermarket will be there, there are a lot of cars that share this series engine. There is also supposed to be a ton of room behind the engine for a big turbo (looking at the new base model). The car is getting some frills, but I don't think they are going too soft. Remember they are also coming out with a RalliArt version, this is going to be the hardcore version, it won't have all the gizmo's on it. I think Mitsu is going to do this right, we'll just have to see how the different versions come about.

Thats not a very accurate statement. The sales of the Eclipse GSX/GST were shattered by the sales of the newer (2000+) Eclipse. The new body style made Mitsubishi quite a bit of cash. I dont know where you heard the opposite, but its not true.

The 2000+ Eclipse also lost them a lot of money because they gave them away to every stripper that came in for the 0 down, 0 interest, and 0 payments for a year deal and end up defaulting when it actually came time to start making payments.
