Guy came in today, long time 302 guy big fan of v8's and hated the "Tuner" world. So, after driving his friends turbo Civic he wanted to give the whole ricer aspect a try. So he picks up a 95 Saturn SL1, SOHC and buys a T3 turbo, FMIC, and NO fuel managment(this gets better) and goes 4 stages colder on the plugs.
So, here's where the story gets really bad.
He's running NO fuel managment system on the car, but running an upgraded fuel pump, stock injectors in the stock location, the did a direct port injection with 4 aditional injectors that increases the fuel going into the car using the boost to adjust a secondary FPR. So, as the PSI raises, the amount of gas increases to counter this. Anyone else see a tuning nightmare if 1) he gets it to work and 2) it works.

A friend of mine runs a 5th injector setup on his turbo escort. It doesnt have mutch tuning range but it does the trick. You pretty mutch need to run pig rich to stay on the safe side of things. We had some real fun with it on elites dyno a few years back trying to get a desent AFR.

He's running 4 injectors on a FPR allowing no flow under idle and as he says, "Full Cycle" under 8psi of boost. I say too much of a good thing(gas) is bad. I think he'll run too rich to run, i know with Nitrous systems you run an adition injector(s) depending on the shot sometimes.
That, and it's a SOHC saturn.
You lost me somewhere between Saturn and Turbo. He's already done, an AEM couldnt save that car.

Thx, i love it when a v8 driver tries his luck with a 4 cylinder then spends the rest of his life bitching about it because of one bad run in.
I told him to stop by next week when he's got everything running, and try looking under the hood. I'll try and challenge him to a race to get him to buy a REAL car.

Bad run in? No, he would be bitching due to a rediculous mistake on his part. And did he miss the part about 'tuner' involving some tuning?

He said this was his first venture with a "Tuner". I thought i'd say something to him... but i was on the clock.
Almost as bad as the Cavalier i see stop by sometimes. HUGE FMIC and running 5 psi of boost.

I used to be a Saturn service manager and I can tell that a SL1 is not a "tuner" car. He should be beating his friend's ass for letting him get it.

How did he get a FPR that completely cuts off all flow at idle? He could actually do it just using a rising rate FPR on his stock rail and injectors although he could only run real low boost. You could run larger injectors by running a FPR that has an adjustable rising rate ratio(more than 1:1) and running a lower base fuel pressure.

He said he "Reversed the FPR so when it's idling there's little to no fuel coming out, and as the boost incerases, it alows more fuel to enter.
I sat there as his friend had a huge smile on his face. Didn't know if it was because he thought his friend was smart... or if he actually saw the look on my face as the guy was looking for a plug 4 ranges colder for the car in our NGK book.
