Honda is doing the same with the SI..can't test drive...
I drove the first one in Duluth, still had all the wrappers on it ;)
For what it is and how much it costs, its a VERY cool/fun little car. Its pretty quick (would beat a stock DSM) and it handles quite well.

I don't know, I'm looking at some REAL Clean used Evo 8's off the Web for $10K less than that MR?
Really what does the MR package Really get you?
Will it make you FASTER?
It's just trim and a few gauges right?
It wont make you faster in a straight line if thats what you want.

Yeah like CVD said... not any faster in a straight line. All you get is the DCCD and lighter body parts (ie. thinner windows and whatnot). Same engine setup. I'm sure there's a few other minor things I'm missing though.

When the MR was first introduced it had a larger turbo (or was it just more boost?) and the 6-speed tranny. Do all EVO's now have that? The MR does get special suspension that rides nicer and handles better. There is a lot more to a car's performance than just straight line speed.

The MR has a bunch of features that set it apart from the others. Just off the top of my head I know it has a lighter roof which lowers its center of gravity. And lighter wheels I believe for less rotating mass. I don't think it has a bigger turbo though. I actually recall that horsepower being similar to a EVO 8 but its like 300 lbs lighter or something. I would have to go and check to make sure but I am too lazy, I just got up.

Yeah I'm wondering since all I want is a fast, straight line stop light to stop light car, and NOT a RoadRace/Rally car if an Evo is Really a good fit for me?
Really I'm looking for a newer style "Muscle Car" I guess?
Maybe time to go back and look at another Cobra or even a Z06?
Comments.....?

To clear up the misinformation here's a grid of the features of all three:
http://www.mitsubishimotors.com/MMSA/jsp/lancerevolution/features_specs.jsp?t=all
All IX's have ACD now (active center differential) [DCCD is for subarus] {no US Evos have AYC}, the turbos and engines are all the same on the IX's but are a significant upgrade to the VIIIs (slightly larger turbo and MIVEC).
The RS and MR both have aluminum roofs. The MR's biggest features are the 6spd transmission, BBS wheels, Bilstein dampers, and areo parts (vortex generator, wicker bill, etc). The MR is probably not worth the price. I had a hard time deciding between the RS and MR and if I hadn't gone into Brookdale and gotten a good deal I probably would be driving an RS now.

Cool, If your serious, that would really help me decide???
How do you REALLY like your MR on a scale of 1 to 10?
What's the good, and whats the Bad?
I may drive the MR LAST, and the Vette and Sti beforehand.
Sure, it will at least give you a feel for an Evo. I usually go to the Wednesday night MNSC meets at Culvers off of Bass Lake RD and 494 if you want to stop by.
From 1 to 10, I like it a 10; if it wasn't so ugly I'd give it an 11. ;) It's just put together so well it's hard to describe. Everything works well together. A lot of people say it's a "driver's car" and some put it ahead of the exotics they've owned or driven as far as the sheer joy and ease of driving it.
It really is a purpose built race car though, so if you like to cruise a Vette would be a better choice. The Evo is ugly and rides relatively harsh. Especially the regular Evo dampers (the MR's are a little softer) [a regular Evo with lowering springs will probably knock your teeth out]. :p My MR has relatively expensive coilovers though, and even though it's lowered I think it rides even slightly softer then the Bilsteins.
