so coating the inside will help prevent the heat staying in the metal, because the inside is coated, stopping much of the heat from ever getting into the metal in the first place
because it's keeping the heat in the metal, not letting it out, which is good for underhood temps, probably good for the exhaust flow because the air is hotter, but not so good for the metal
