Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
The honeycomb falling out of the Evo MAS worries me.
The Evo MAS is easy to hook intake pipes up to though.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
Someone on the Link forums said the 2g MAS outflows the Evo, but the Evo outmeters the 2g. What they meant I guess is that the 2G one is larger, but the Evo one will meter higher, up to like 60lb/min.
Someone also had attached this picture of an evo MAS that was being used in a 60lb/min application.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
Yeah, i found that thread and read into it, i will keep the 2G and learn the fake maf feature.
One guy said that the calibration files on there were already quite close, but we will have to see.
thanks

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
So does that mean you're going to hack it, because that's what he was refferring to with the calibration files I think.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
I think the 2G MAS I am running right now just has the lower honeycomb missing. I haven't had any problems tuning it yet, but I don't have DSMLink to actually give me more then the basic datalogger info.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
actually from what i was reading, you dont have to hack it, but you can.
Just turn on fake maf, and the link takes over.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
I'm at this point right now. I've got my link on it's way, and everything else for my heavier, simpler street setup, but I've been looking for an EVO maf, and they're tough to find. If the 2G maf is that similar, maybe I'll just do that. I'm going to have to clamp it anyways if they only meter ~60 lbs/min.

The new word on the street is that they suck.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
I had both the Evo and 2G MAS and I went with the 2G MAS just because I knew the mapping for it and I didn't want to figure out how to keep that honeycomb from falling out at the wrong time and blowing the car up.
I don't know why the MAFT are/were so popular. They are always on some car that doesn't actually need it, the damn 2G MAS has gone 9s, and it's usually on some car that could have used that $250 toward something like cams, or intake manifold, or a decent external gated turbo, or something that would actually make the too big turbo on the car make more power than a 16G.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
You can hack a 2g MAF also, is the 60 lb/min with it hacked? I had a hacked one quite a while ago and it was fine with just a 5 knob SAFC I took out the bottom screw, cut off the protrusion for the screw, cleaned up the extra plastic hanging over the honey comb and thinned out and pointed the webbed pieces. It did make a difference as I had to richen up the SAFC and there still weren't idle problems.

Ok. I really liked mine, it seemed to do a good job at doing what it was supposed to do.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
I have the 3.5 inch MAFT on my car in draw thru, no complaints here. I have it's internal settings 0'ed and use DSMLink to tune it.
It will be really nice if DSMLink V3 comes with the ability to "plug and play" the GM MAF without the translator.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
Oh yeah, I'll have to figure that one out. Kinda tough to vent a big Tial BOV back into the intake. I'm sure it won't be too tough to tune around that, I can't be without my WHOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
My MAF-translator worked awesome as well. I liked having it in blow thru for cleaner install, as well as not having a MAF on my intake for my cold air setup...
To each there own.

Re: 2G MAS vs EVO MAS
I liked the Maf-t for the VTA thing, but if I had to do it again I'd probably just stick with a 2G mas. Like shane said, the $$ could go for a nice set of cams or other misc mods to help make more power.

It supposed to also have the ability to use just speed density as well.
Aaron all I was saying about hacking, was that conversion file that they had posted up in that thread that you were talking about, was the setting you would use if you were to remove the 2 lower honeycombs. The FakeMaf function has worked pretty well for plenty of people, and is what I plan on doing with my new setup.
As for the 60lb/min, that's what I've heard the EVO MAS's will meter up to. That's all hearsay. I have no clue at what level a 2g MAS pins at, but isn't it at something like 2800hz, whatever that translates to? I just know that once I see I've pinned it, it's time to check the little FakeMas box
