Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
So I was messing around and called my Aunt looking for a running and driving car. I have been trying to buy her husbands Galant VR4 for years. Well. She said that due to it needing a clutch and having trans problems.
The last time i seen the car it looked alot better. lol. The paint is really bad on it. And the interior is in dire need of a good cleaning. The car does run good though. Even with a slipping clutch I was able to drive it 250 miles back home. The clutch did slip anytime you get into boost. But i just took it slow.
I already have the parts to fix the clutch issue. Only thing I am concerned about is the trans issues. If you put it into first and let the clutch out it just pops out. I did do some looking and i see that the bracket holding the cables on the trans is loose. Gonna tighten that up and check the cables for adjustment and see what happens.
Any way here are some pics.
Its dirty as hell and needs a good cleaning. Which will get done this weekend. Hoping to have it up and going by next week.

awesome! what are your plans for it after you fix the clutch and clean it up? good to see a non-molested GVR4 around!

Looks pretty straight, get a paint job and you'd have a kick ass bone stock GVR-4! Probably not many of those out there anymore. Heck, maybe just a good cleaning and a buff.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
I kinda wanna keep it simple. Not alot of mods. Gonna pretty much replace the clutch and see if there is any other issues with the trans.
Gonna do emissions and egr removal. Also adding a MBC, and trying to find at least a jdm fmic for it until i can afford the ETS kit. Pretty much just gonna start small and go from there.
I am still debating on relocating the battery to the truck. Its just so odd seeing the battery right there.
Goodhart-I know the paint dont look bad in the pics, but in person its horrid. lol. The doors and one rear fender must have been repainted at one time cause they are still shiny. But on a good note. My uncle said if i can get it into a good primer sealer and possibly just a satin clear by the end of summer, he will respray it or me.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Well, this is not my first VR4. I had one years ago, like 5+ years ago, and sold it to a friend. And in the middle of me buying it back, the car was sitting at his place of work waiting for a chance to get new paint. And there was a nasty ass storm and a tree fell on it and three other cars. Ever since than i have always wanted another one. Its been the only car I have actually searched for. But any good ones were usually about 6+ hours away.
Here is the pic of my last one a week before the tree fell.
I dont have any aftermath pics. Because I was not the titled owner, the guy at the shop would not let me back there. This car was reportedly taken out to the shop owners land, run over with a Dozer, and than buried.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
Ya. I know. I tried to get back there to see the car and he wouldn't let me. It didn't help that my so called friend left that job owing the guy money. He wanted me to pay an insane amount of money for the car to get it back.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
I would love a GVR4 for a DD. The hood looks pretty faded, but like Goodhart said a good buff job can make a world of difference.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
They dont salt much there, but this car had a life of gravel roads. So I am hoping I dont discover something bad underneath. I already looked under there and it looked decent. But we will see once i get it cleaned up.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
So i have been starting to look into doing something with the battery. Mainly cause I am sure i need a new one anyway.
I am still half and half between relocating it to the trunk, or doing a small battery setup in the bay. Kinda like this.
I am still looking at relocating the battery as i would love the extra space in the engine bay. Found some parts that I think would make it a clean install. JUst pricing out wire and what not that would be needed to do it.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
I vote trunk if this thing is going to be a daily driver. Seems like everyone I know with a mini battery in a DSM, it has left them stranded at some point or another.

Re: Perkul8r's 91 Galant VR4 1055/2000
I'm going to put the battery into the trunk just because it's more reliable that way during the cold winters. I know I'm going to need the battery kill switch so I would eventually do that but probably just put the kill switch in when ever I have the time to do so. It's too cold to work on it right now :P Brother's civic is in the garage getting fixed. But, here's some links that may help out:

Previous owner had a system in the trunk so I will probably just route the wires the way the wires went from the engine to the trunk. I'll try to get pictures up once it actually gets warmer. Hopefully this helps man.
