Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

If you can make 800 plus on a dynojet and be do nlts I think you could pull on liter bikes up top. You can always try and find out. Haha. Looking good tho. Wish I could get a ride in it some time. We should have a mini cruise some weekend.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I am sure the setup has 800ish in it if i go around 40psi, to get a solid "real" 800whp on a dynojet. Right now these are just virtual dyno numbers and I don't ever put a ton of stock in them. The car is for sure fast and I think is for sure 700whp+ but not sure how deep into them.

The X doesn't have true NLTS yet, you can do some stationary rev limit stuff to get it but I'd prefer to wait. Or shift ron style, power shift it.

I will give rides out when it's ready to beat on and consistent.

Nice power! Have you been getting e70 still at the pump? Just curious, cause once the mix changes it is going to lean out even more, which will mean more tuning. Or are you already planning for that?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I dunno...even here we didn't see a count of knock, I think we are on real e85.

Same road as others....lean is mean lol. It was the 1st pull on rescaled map, we fixed it right away.

We will tune more if it starts going lean. I monitor AFR's pretty close.

800 WHP and it looks like you have more pump left

Murlo you really need an ethanol tester haha. Tune to mid 11's on E70 and let'r buck at low 12's on real E85.

Edit: I forgot to mention, when I had fuel pressure issues on my V, it would go to 15:1 and never see knock, that was spring so it could have been less then E85. Granted it was only running 10psi but still, I wouldn't guarantee you have full E85.

These guys have a pretty good point, there's no way we're on real e85 yet...you should really richen up the tune so when you do see real e85 AFR will rise to where it is now.

I will monitor and adjust as necessary. If it starts climbing we can adjust later.

My car seems to run WAY better at 12-12.5AFR's and that is not uncommon for E85 from the stuff I have seen. That being said I still like aiming for 12 flat like we have now. Then when it starts leaning out we will adjust to keep 12 and then I can leave it for when e70 comes and it will richen up.

Are you sure your wideband is reading correctly. The power difference between 11.5 and 12.5 shouldn't be much and the start of your run looks very lean, you sure it isn't reading a point leaner than it really is or something?

Pretty confident, a few weeks ago when I was on MAP's dyno we confirmed they were reading pretty close compared to the dyno's wideband.

I am not confident it's 100% but I think its pretty close.

I also would take these graphs with a grain of salt, I haven't done any back to back runs to average it out or confirm what the car is doing on a consistent basis. And as I said the road isn't very flat so the 800 is for sure flukey I think. I can maybe believe the 750 but the 800 I think is road error or something.

My car has pretty consistently shown though that it likes 12-12.5 and seems to like 12.5 quite a bit and honestly when its leaner like that the car actually feels smoother and obviously faster. My car hated low 11's for some reason, seemed to bog and sputter some.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Just curious, during install of this turbo you were expecting sub 4K spool up. By the look of the graphs it looks like your building ~30psi around 4600-4700 RPM. Is this because you were encountering the surging at first, or can you speak to this a little more?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

We were able to get it to spool before 4k, but yes it would surge and the motor at the low of an rpm cannot actually ingest the volume of air this turbo creates until higher in the RPM band. So we slowed spool down through mivec and the 3port.

Also, remember this is starting the pull at 3-3.5k rpms, so if I start the pull at 2500 it will be closer to 4k rpms.

Bottom line, its a big turbo and its a little doggy down low, but lets be honest its a t4 turbo haha.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Here you can see we can spool it faster but it becomes all out of whack when we do:

New log taken over lunch, more boost to go steady 32psi then more fuel, starting to feel very smooth and consistent now.

Why you no rev to 10k? Your set up really holds steady boost. Car looks really strong.

GSC only recommends 8500 on the gsc s2's and I am not sure what my supertech springs are rated for.

Honestly, I am sure my motor could handle 10k rpms, but the most I ever see going is 9500 for the 1/4 mile for trapping in 4th.

But if I went all honey badger it would be cool to rev it further to see what kind of power it makes lol

The shortblock is rated to 10k though I think (manley rods should be good there and the stock cranks are very stout).

I don't know I could shift up there lol.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I am just curious as to when your car will stop making power up top. It would be nice to have it flatter up top so when you shift you stay in your peak power. One question I have is your tuning the car at 32 psi do you have any other maps/tunes for lower boost that are fine tuned
