Getting a 1ga gsx w/ evoIII engine - What to look for?

I might be getting a 1990 eclipse gsx with an evoIII engine in it.. What are some things I should look out for? It's a 5spd, about 150k on it, has a sun roof..

Anything you could warn me about, or anything that is infamous about these?

I have a 1gb, but I'm assuming since this one is older, there is prone to be more things that go wrong with them...?

Let me know!
Thanks.

Re: Getting a 1ga gsx w/ evoIII engine - What to look for?

'90 models came with air-to-air oil coolers
Pre 91 model year cars came with LSD or ABS, not both
Only some models came with an EPROM ECU
Tranny linkage is different than 92-94

Not sure how much of that is relevant to this particular car, but is just some general info on 90's, since they are kind of a bastard year. Got any pics? Elaborate on Evo III engine, since they are 4g63's also. I'm not sure that anything is different.

Ha ha Thats what I thought when i first read the thread

So first look out for shit that the guy is talking about

2g and EvoIII don't have that front motor mount that would make it possible to mount it in a 1990

I have a 1990

Trans are somewhat different so a common swap is using a 91-94 trans with shift cables (a rumor though is stock to stock the 90 transmissions are stronger but I don't know if that is bs or if it is true)
The Throttle body is different looking

The tach reads from a different source then a 91-94 so if you were to use dsm link you would have to move a couple of wires around

get 92-94 front breaks

Alright. Are the 92-94 brakes bigger, or what?

There's the engine...
He said the guy he got it from said it was an evoIII engine. Maybe he just misundertood that it has an evoIII manifold and/or turbo...? or maybe the guy said that it was the same engine (4g63) as the evo.. idk. I will have to ask him.

It looks like a 2g exhaust manifold so it might have the Evo turbo. But everything else in that pic looks to be correct 90 6 bolt stuff.

2g and Evo III manifolds look alot alike, it could be either one in that pic.

that is all 90 4g63 but the 2g or evo manifold

for the brakes you want 93-94 gsx 2 piston brakes they are the big ones other wise they are all the same size

Oh, alright. Well, if it is the stock 2g manifold, I have the evoIII manifold that I got from you ^^ ..which I ported.
