I like the tweaked location! I disagree on the comment about them being 'necessary' I think a bitchin stereo is absolutely necessary!

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

5/12/12:
Found a way to press out the front bushings of the front control arms, I also learned how to get ball joints out stupid easy.

Close up of socket, pipe, and vice method:

Bushings all out!

Both front lower control arms stripped ready for some PC action!

So I took off the caliper brackets so they can get powdercoated, and I discovered that both of my wheel bearings are shot. Well good time to get rid of those stupid ABS rings, ABS is the devil!

Custom bracket for my Vacuum pump, still needs a lot of work.

Both hubs need new bearings and seals.

I was outside for a bit, got some stuff moved around, pulled a cam gear I needed which was the toughest cam gear removal I've ever had the impact wasn't budging it one bit.

I figured out the mounting location for my vacuum pump and pulled off the padding from the firewall.

Hopefully my homework doesn't take me too long tomorrow and I can get the vacuum pump mounted and wired and head assembled and put on the motor.

I'm curious to see how this vacuum pump will be setup. I always hear of guys saying to run them, but never actually seen one setup.

Me too, even if I don't need it that much it will help the car not be so edge when I'm launching. (if that makes sense) The car would try to pull thru the brakes at about 18+psi and if its making more power it might pull more. People keep telling me to launch at 30psi, but I'm

Here is the write up for the vacuum pump that I'm following.

Fawk. No link login ftl. I think I get what you mean though with the brakes. Are you using it to provide more braking power while at the line or what? Do guys run line locks on DSM's?

5/15/12:
So today was a fun day in took 5 hrs to drill about 20 holes and pickup tb shaft seals.
But after that Pat & GH were determined to get something done so we started to put the head together and get the vacuum pump mounted.
Also thanks to Goatblower for drilling holes in the head for me.

Top view of new head, HKS 272s, 3G lifters, and evo valvetrain.

Motor mounts filled by tehehodi & Goodhart:

MAP headstuds:

Oh, you see that motor mount bracket installed to the right of the pic, well that F'd up my night and the exh. mani would hit it of course it was 1am and I was out of cutting disks so we called it quits, but I have never heard anyone mention having to cut that thing up.

MLS permatorque:

Part of me wishes I would of went with a cometic, but oh well.

Stupid PS / motor mount bracket that effed up my day and so I was unable to put the head on.

Bracket modified, I cut a lb of metal off there I'll be shocked if it doesn't work now:

Wiring harness for VW vacuum pump:

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

5/27/12-
I decided to take a little break from homework and cleaned up the rear splash shields, as i type this i realize its not worth mentioning because they aren't even that clean now. But the rear of the car is 1 step closer to being done.

5/28-12-
Decided to not wait for my brackets and get the head on the car. Still proved to be a pain had to break out the rubber mallet and some polish on it. (Thanks Pete) and to bradd who just creeps on here.

6-4-12-
A week later I got all my powdercoated stuff (Thanks powderkeg) I got to say Tim was worried about the control arms not turning out and well it's good to know he wants stuff to look damn good. Anyway I was super happy when I picked all my stuff up.
I got the rear suspension put in as we were just standing outside BS'ing (roommates) I also took the time to install my T-belt and brackets that I had done, i also installed my new FF OFH and I ported it and installed a smaller spring so I did not have to do any cutting. I forgot my oil psi sender is broken so I hope it doesn't leak and I can just drive without one for a few days if needed. (I keep forgetting to order a new one)

Rears wheels are back on!! Almost looks like a normal car back there. Almost.

Bad news time, i put the T-belt on, then put the brackets on and decided to turn the motor over, well did 1 rotation marks on head=good, crank=not good, crank is 1/4-1/2" past where it should be. I said F it and I'll deal with it next time.

Got it on there, thanks to JDM John for the advice/help.

Pre-power steering/what used to be engine mount bracket pic

Power steering bracket installed, looks a lot nicer compared to before. Thanks powderkeg.

Improved upper timing belt tin pieces. Luckily I have an extra set to see how yucky they are, this will help my make it easier to work on/clean.
— with powderkeg custom.

PG the event i was totally looking forward to. Well by my plans a few months ago I would be driving the car right now and it would have either been to the track already or be going this weekend. That isn't the case.

With taking 12 credits this summer, and getting my ass kicked by school and the combo of school work I'm not thinking I will make it. I'm a bit saddened but to be honest at one point being able to run the car this year looked bleak which it no longer does so I'm happy to know if it doesn't explode I'll be able to make some track days after this semester (sept/oct) which seems to be when i normally make the track.

6/8/12-
Ordered up my new seals and wheel bearings for the front hubs, last 2 seals should be here tomorrow am or tonight sometime. (6/8/12)
Today I picked up some injectors so basically tomorrow night I should be able to get the car running or at least this weekend I could be driving around.
I'm not gonna lie, a small part of me wants the car to work this weekend because I will totally be driving it everyday and shaking it down so that I could make PG assuming school isn't raping me.

Wow, getting further than you made it sound the other day. If you need a laptop holder bitch for tuning, I can swing by after work this week. I have Wed-Thur off, then I go on 2-10 shifts.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

During the week stuff probably won't happen. If my wife doesn't get screwed out of graduating this thursday I'll have her tune it, I basically tell her my thoughts and it happens she is good at using link. She hates that she knows how to tune link by the end of the summer.

I'm usually working thur & fri 230-1030pm at minimum every week.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

6-9-12:
T-belt cover installed, for some reason it just went on easy, almost by itself!?

6-9-12:
Time to install fresh powdercoated power steering bracket. A lot better than before.

6-9-12:
PS & water pump pulleys installed.

6-11-12:
Timing belt side of motor done, mount installed along with alternator belt, got VC put back on with new EVO oil cap. Thanks Nick/Cornfed 2.4.

6-11-12:
Had this '90 water pipe laying around sandblasted and had a port welded by Jet figured I should paint it before it gets rusty or something. Had some white laying around.

Good job buddy, hopefully you have it running soon! Then we will have to get a Blaine mitsu cruise going!

If i wasn't so busy with my car lately I'd "try" to help you out with my mad mechanic skills lol. If you do need a hand quick for a 2 man part though let me know, I can make time for a fellow mitsu dude.

Thanks, I've been lucky that my friend and roommate has helped a lot when needed and other friends have come by when I needed it too. (head, trans. install)

I'm trying to make an hour outside every night when I can, sadly wed. nights i signed up for volleyball and th. & friday nights I have work.

But everytime i look at the engine bay I want to cry because there so much random crap, like last night it hit me how much of a pain mounting the coil pack and power transistor will be.

The only reason I'm rocking the stock intake is 1) to run in stock appearing and 2) to get a good comparison with JDM John brand intake manifold which I feel is the best one out next to the Magnus V3. - I also want to do this test because I have some friends that do mile and salt flat racing that are interested in the manifold too.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Today made some good progress thanks to Goodhart.
Got new bushings put in control arms and ball joints, then fails started.

For some reason couldnt get the control arms in the car, and then failed on installing new wheel bearings.

Didn't touch anything on the motor that is still far away, need a port on the water pipe welded and 3 ports on my thermostat housing sealed up.

Also sold my EVO wheels I've had since 2006. IF the car doesn't run by next week I don't know what I'm gonna do. On a good note I'm done with all my school work for the week so I'm getting better at that.
