FMIC Polishing / Anodizing

Anyone know anywhere locally that can do this? My intercooler looks like ass, and while it's off I'd like to get it cleaned up a bit, and possibly anodized black. Anyone have any recommendations?

If you want to wait on this a bit, I have all the polishing goodies. I can't do it for a while though.

Yeah, I've been interested in having intercoolers anodized for awhile but never really looked into it

Re: FMIC Polishing / Anodizing

I'd anodize the right 1/3 blue, and the left 1/3 red, and leave the center non anodized. For the patriotic look.

Would anodizing affect the heat dissipation at all?

Re: FMIC Polishing / Anodizing

They use acid in the process and it also surface hardens the aluminum, its not adding anything so it should not affect its cooling. Sounds like a good test, atleast the Ebay FMICs are cheap compared to a sparco bar/plate core with custom endtanks, if it does not work that is.
Edit: The anodizing process does add a little thickness, read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodising
It sounds like it depends on how think they make it.

Re: FMIC Polishing / Anodizing

I have seen quite a few people anodize them black. Technically that should improve cooling as black will radiate more heat. The anodizing is so thin that it *shouldn't* impair the heat transfer. I wouldn't expect to see much of a difference one way or the other.

Midland Powder Coating

http://midlandpowdercoating.com/ContactUs/contact.html

They're a small shop, but they're cheap, fast, and do a decent job.

I actually bought that Evo 8 FMIC from you, and it's still black like you lightly painted it It actually still looks good.. you could try doing that again maybe. Don't know how it will effect performance though since it's a thin layer of paint and not anodized.

A blue front mount? Are you high? I just flat blacked the shit out of mine back in the day when I actually had a running car. I also didn't know shit back then either. It still looked sweet though
