Cisco gear

I'm upgrading my rack to begin studying for another CCIE lab attempt. I have a bunch of slightly outdated gear that'd still be useful for a CCNA/CCNP candidate.

Routers:
2x 2501 (full memory/flash, all accessories) for $20 ea.
6x 3640 routers with full memory/flash and various interfaces

Switches:
2x 3550-24PWR-SMI $175/ea

I'd let the 3640 bare chassis go for $10. If you want memory, network modules, T1 WICs, etc then they'd be $40-50 ea.

These prices are less than Ebay -- shipping is a hassle.

Re: Cisco gear

Is there anything you could do with these that you couldn't do with something like Boson Netsim?

Yea, get actual experience with real gear. My old company actually had production stuff running on gear of this era, LOTS of production stuff!

Lomker, as you start to sell some of this please update this, I may be interested in some of it.

Sims usually include a specific command set and nowhere near all of the commands that a full IOS contains. I wouldn't be surprised if it were adequate for the career certs. For the CCIE you need to know the obscure commands and this rack is configured for the INE labs.

Some people use an emulator called Dynamips. I tried it years ago and it has serious performance issues. It also couldn't emulate switches adequately enough to be of any use. I'm not sure what its status is today.

The other approach is to rent rack time. I don't find that convenient since I only have a couple hours per day to study and not at a fixed time, either.

Will do. I'm guessing I'd make out best by parting out the 3640s and ditching the chassis. I do hate to throw away working stuff, though.

Re: Cisco gear

What version of IOS are the routers using? Ill maybe take one of those 3640s off your hands, and maybe a card or two.

Re: Cisco gear

Hey Tom, they are all running 12.4(13a) Enterprise right now. 32MB flash/128 MB ram on all of them. The Enterprise image fills the flash to within 900 bytes! I can get you whatever version you want. Technically licensing is up to you beyond the base IP image (which comes with any Cisco device) but I've never heard of Cisco busting a home lab.

My 3725s are in the rack so the 3640s will be on Ebay on Monday. Let me know if you want me to hold onto any of them.
