Adjusting Shifter Cables

Whats recomended for adjusting the shifter cables? I tightend them so theres no slack really and the adjustment nut is tightend all the way. I couldn't find to much info on vfaq regarding this. I still grind going into 2nd but all the other gears seem fine. I'm using readline fluid and metal shifter bushings on the shifter, this is the last fix short of a tranny rebuild.

what about the pedal? Do you have it so the clutch grabs like if you barely lift it off the floor? If so then adjust the pedal higher a little, might just be that your pedal is adusted so the clutch is just barely disengaging. If you need a tranny lemme know.

The procedure is in your Haynes or Chilton's, it's pretty simple.

Sorry the hijack the thread, but where are these GVR4 trannies located? I need one.

I need to adjust the pedal then. I shimmed the pivot ball and I can defiently tell the engagement point is higher than it was but I'm just not sure for the shifter cables if there supposed to be adjusted like an e-brake cable? or it theres recomended slack. I don't wanna be over/under extending a shift fork.

The only problems I'm having is grinding 2nd and twice I went to put it into 1st and it grinded from a dead stop.

okay, I checked out my pedal, it looks fine. The threaded rod that extends into the rubber dealie is as far out as it can go on the pedal assm. I was messing around again w/the shifter cables and realized that you want the shifter to be straight up :uh: , not tight as it can get to remove any slack. The grind went away so no more slowly shifting at really low prms into 2nd.

haha did you like tighten it so that the shifter was sittin way forward. That's the problem I had with my gvr4 tranny. You gotta adjust the shifter back straight up cuz its sits way forward and barely even goes into 1, 3, or 5th gear. Glad you got it fixed though man! Also don't have your pedal engagement point too high, or else you might run into problems where it doesn't fully engage.
