Re: Project Winter Beater

Engine bay is all prepped and ready for the motor:

Here are those stupid brake rotors. I had to cut into them and then take a hammer and chisel and got them to crack:

However, with progress there's also a few steps back. Popped off the clutch and flywheel from the 91 and the awd flywheel I was going to use has too many deep cracks in it so I need to buy one of those. Then I took off the clutch I put in last year and heres the disk:

The springs in the sprung center are once again working themselves out. This would be the 3rd clutch this has happened to me. Not to mention it looks like the flywheel wasn't stepped right as you can see theres a lot of material on the disk not even touching. The other side looks great on the pressure plate side. I'm going to get an unsprung 6 puck disk and a chromoly 11lbs flywheel so I'm not breaking these ever again.

Lay a straight edge across your pressure plate. There is a very good chance that it is warped and causing your uneven wear.

I thought that too but when I look at the side the pressure plate was on, all the pucks were wore evenly. It was only on the flywheel side. I will no doubt check the pressure plate though.

Got a few parts today:

Ebay 1g awd dp:

Only thing that disapoints me is these welds:

If it seals, I'll be happy. I also picked up an ebay radiator:

We'll see how this goes....

DP looks nice, what did it cost? Just see how it holds up, pretty welds don't mean crap, they are usually the ones that crack.

83 dollars shipped to my door. I'm very pleased with it. Only thing I have to do is weld in an o2 bung for my wideband.

Re: Project Winter Beater

I think I might be a pic whore. Installed my fmic kit and my oil cooler from off the Laser:

Also got the passenger front brake lines on. The driver's side is giving me a hard time so I'm going to replace some of the hard line.

Started plugging in my wiring harness too:

The rear ss lines are on:

The car is mostly waiting on me to sell the old motor so I can pick up a clutch disk and flywheel.

Re: Project Winter Beater

SS lines are awesome. I had them all the way around on my DSM, and soon I'll have them all the way around on the 240.

I've never driven a car with them so I'm pretty excited to try them out. This is the first time I actually put a little more than pocket change into the brakes. lol

Re: Project Winter Beater

So I was bored tonight after work so I went out to the garage and started getting into it again.....

Here's just the engine harness:

I'm putting the fender fuse box in the back next to the battery, running the engine harness through a new hole on the driver's side of the shifter cables, basically learning from everything I did on the Laser and doing it better. It should be hella-clean though.

Selling it. Or if I get enough interest, part it out. I have a thread here for it.

Re: Project Winter Beater

So here's what a stock wiring harness looks like strung out:

Here's what it looks like all un-wrapped and layed out the way I plan to route it:

Going to re-do the wires going to the t-stat housing and o2 sensor. Then I just have to wrap it all back up and put it back in the car.
