Evo 2.3 Build

Well the time has come to do something different, Ive had the car for over 7 years....and well I need more torque!!!

Really, the main reason is that MAP had a complete Stage 2 2.3 shortblock ready to go and I just couldn't pass on it. I dropped car off Saturday after the swap meet. MAP is doing the swap and break in tune.

Its really a bittersweet feeling, the cars heart is completely stock 79,xxx miles. Never had a blown headgasket or anything major go wrong with it. The only items to be taken off car are turbo, exhaust, intercooler, piping and valve cover lol. Its been so good to me over the years but I also know its a ticking time bomb at the power level especially since I want to do more drag, autox events and even see some road course action but I don't want to risk losing everything off it. A motor build becomes about double in price if you throw a rod or something catastrophic happens. I'm attempting to be smart here while hoping to fall in love all over again with the cars power output. No I'm not throwing some massive turbo on here and hoping to make 800whp. Just a nice reliable 480-500whp with matching tq. Although I'm not promising to NEVER put a bigger turbo on at somepoint...

Re: Evo 2.3 Build

Can't wait to see the numbers. So all you changed was the shortblock? I have always wanted to see the difference from the 2.0 to 2.3 on the same set up. Good luck on the new motor.

Yes sir, same turbo EF2.5. The head was gone through but no porting was done or any other power adders.

Re: Evo 2.3 Build

You're going to love it. I built a 2.4 for my old Evo with an old skool FP Green and it was crazy. Tons of torque, instant spool, absolutely awesome on the street. Sold that to Weggy and now I'm recreating that setup on my DSM. I've loved the larger displacement option since it first got popular.

Re: Evo 2.3 Build

I'm a big fan of that combination for a 2.3l. You'll love the response and want a bigger turbo too. I bet an Ef3 would be a blast. I'm in the same boat, wondering how long my stock block is going to last with around 500whp? Good call on being proactive.

Yeah I wasnt going to wait for my block to go boom, I'm going to wait and see how this EF2.5 does first and I may just go back to an EF3

I got 1400 for my stock block, still able to save the oil cooler and oil pan. That adds up to about 2,000 dollars saved that I wouldnt have if I threw a rod. And why thank you lol. See you in stock appearing at PG next yr

Re: Evo 2.3 Build

No tune date set but I do have a list of things I want done before the season gets underway

- New intake pipe, thats not silicone. Possibly this one but I hate how the flanges are soooo short on the bov return. http://www.maperformance.com/jm-fab-...-pipe-evo.html

- New inline filter for turbo oil feed. (found tons of gunk in it and some of it just wont come out)

- Catch can setup

- Maybe upgrade injectors I only have PTE 1000s

- Repaint lip

- New tires before PG

I'm excited to see what she can do this season and just excited in general to get out of this winter wonderland

Re: Evo 2.3 Build

I was thinking of a set of Rivals that I'll keep on the BBS wheels and just swap them from this to RS if needed. The RS has a set of NT555 on it, I've heard they're not exactly the best.

How many miles a year do you expect to put on the car? What are your plans for the car, just a fun ass street machine?

Probably 2-5k at most. I'd like to push it a little more than what my 1000cc injectors will do but Im really sick of spending money lol..so whatever it safely makes I'll be content with it. Especially with the response it'll have now. I'd like to do some autox with it and stock appearing drags at PG's. Its going to be a really fun street car as well.

Re: Evo 2.3 Build

Copy and pasted this from Evomn.net early June.

Its been awhile since I've had an update here, when the site was hacked I lost quite a few posts but oh well. Lets get everyone up to date!!

Long story short here, I ditched my EF3 for an FP Green that should be here within a month or so. Its one of the last MHI housings they'll make. Robert at FP told me they scored 40 or so MHI housings so I picked up one. They're still in process of machining the housings so the wait lingers on. The big story from last year was I ended up blowing the open diff in the tcase last Proving Grounds (PG.2) but I did end up running my first 11s qtr with it beforehand haha! Thought it was the trans but ended up being the tcase after Ronnie checked them both over. We used a RS LSD to replace it so I should have some extra grip now!!

Last week before B4B I got the trans and tcase back from RS and decided to get them in asap so Wednesday night and Thursday morning I wrapped up the install with one of the MAP guys help here and there. I also decided to stop fucking around with CC clutches and their stupid lockout issues and just bought a brand new Exedy Twin Disc. I did buy a used one earlier this winter but rather than hoping it'll last I ended up going with the new one. Monoloc and new TOB as well. This is exactly how I've always wanted the car and I'm glad its almost there. Only thing left is a JDM rear! Some pics of dat Twin Disc!

Re: Evo 2.3 Build

And after turbo install...

So everything is in and running good! Brand new MHI FP Green, FP Exhaust Manifold, ETS 3.5" FMIC and MAP LICP on the car now. Ron tuned it the Tuesday before PG and it made "little" power

480/450, I wasnt there during dynoing but Ron said it made 492 at one point but wouldnt make anymore so he backed off. He was trying to make 500 haha!

Re: Evo 2.3 Build

Copy and Pasted from Evomn...late fall

Well its the end of another great year, loved getting my Evo into the mid 11s and moving it closer to personal goals. Exterior/interior wise my car is as perfect as I could've ever asked for. 9 1/2 years ago when I bought it, I never thought it would like this

Not going to lie this car is a garage queen and will stay this way besides some cruising, drags and DCTC and...I'm perfectly content with that!! Hope you all had a great season too!

Next years goals and parts to be installed:

Run 10s haha
Shep Stage 3 Trans with Billet Input Shaft/Ultimate Ratio
AWD Motorsports Aluminum Driveshaft
Fortune Auto 500 Series Coilovers
Whiteline Roll Center Kit
Maybe a few other things!

Thanks for reading fellas!
