Type "limp mode" in the search tool on the tool bar. I am not sure if anyone has ever posted what they did to fix this problem but I know it has been asked before.

Re: auto wont shift

The tranny computer has put it into limp mode. The transmission computer (otherwise known as TCU) has a problem in it. We had this happen a while ago and it turned out that the TCU had to be rebuilt. We sent ours to Austin, MN and they rebuilt it for $175 with a warranty. Carney Auto I believe was the name of it.

If you have an owners manual, they mention it in there. It could be something as simple as a code causing it. But with these older cars, usually the TCU has to be rebuilt.

Re: auto wont shift

I had the same problem with my car. Took the TCU out and brought it to Carney Auto in Austin. Ended up being completely burned out, but they found one for me for the same price from somewhere in Arizona or something. I also know there is one or two people on these forums with spares or that can rebuild them for you. It fixed the problem though as soon as I put the new one in.
