Re: Project Lex
Considering you want it to be as quiet as possible.. twin mufflers will be the better option for you.

Re: Project Lex
Duals are badass, just ask the good 'ol boys in dem saweet pick'em up trucks!
Seriously though I like the look of duals, but less weight of a single is appealing.
If quiet is what you want, I'd have to agree with mo.

Re: Project Lex
Rideskinz wrote back and said that's how they package all poly stuff because it will return to normal shape once it reaches a more normal temperature. Well he was right, the lip is sitting in the room and looks normal! So that's good
Went and worked on the motor for a couple hours today. It's taking me awhile since I'm new to this thing. The wire harness is a god aweful mess, but I got it all disconnected and out of the way. Intake and exhaust manifolds are off. Fuel rail off. Valve covers off. Serpentine belt off.
So at this point, I guess I need to figure out how the timing belt works and what all it takes to get that thing off. Seems like I'll have to remove a bunch of shit to get the cover off. Then take the cams out, head bolts off, and that should be it I think.
Once the head is off I plan on calling up Northern Cylinder Head in Andover to see if they'll go ahead and clean it up, put new valve seals, valve springs, and cams in for me (and shim). Nice little tin shed po-dunk feeling shop that's done a lot of head work for me on my DSM in the past!
So that's it for now. here's a couple pics.

Re: Project Lex
I guess I'm assuming I'll have to take the dampener off, but no idea yet.
Thanks for the offer on helping. I'll let ya know if I ever do. I'm kind of a do it myselfer though, just go out there an hour here and an hour there.
Electric fan sure would be nice. The stocker is a monster that I'd love to ditch. However I think I'm going to leave it on for now, and it must work pretty well because I never come close to overheating

Re: Project Lex
I'm a bit late, but I guess the King of Ricers needs to speak up.
My JDM bumper was shipped to me bent like a pretzel. Leaving it out where its warm allows it to shape itself into its original form.
The picture of it folded up didn't worry me one bit.

Re: Project Lex
Got the head off. I have it all boxed up along with the new BC springs, and new stem seals. Just waiting for the new cams to arrive and then will be delivering it to the shop to get worked.
Engine looks pretty good. Going to try and clean some of the crud off the tops of the pistons. Cleaned of the middle two with a little brake cleaner and paper towel. Will move onto the other 4 another day.

Re: Project Lex
Having them clean it up. Check to see if anything looks old/worn such as guides and what not. If everything looks good, they will be installing new valve stem seals, the new BC springs, and I will have them shim for the new cams.
I've never done much internal head work (valves, seals, springs), and I don't have the tools for it. So I source that kinda stuff out.

Re: Project Lex
Think I found my mysterious oil leak. Shouldn't there be more than 1 bolt holding the upper oil pan on?

Bolts are so over-rated in engines.
