rod bearings

Well a little info on why I need new ones. I heard this noise it sounded weird under load so I had to look in to it and I found out that my rod bearings were going out it looks like the metal was flaking off (I had a bad oil pump and I didn't know it) so I am looking in to getting new ones what kind should I look in to.

Re: rod bearings

I would make sure that the crank is good and not just look it over quick and slap in new bearings and call it good.

Re: rod bearings

Keep an eye on it after you put in new bearings, I've never had good luck with turned cranks in DSM's.

Re: rod bearings

I used clevite 77 tri-metal Main and rod bearings. Whatever you get, I would make sure they are tri-metal as opposed to bi-metal, because the galling resistance is like 3 times better.

Re: rod bearings

well looks like I am putting in a new crank and main-rod bearing and piston ring. I saw that the #4 piston ring look bad so I just going to hone out all the cylinder's and put in new piston ring sent I have the piston out.

I suggest having John Gosh do the work if you are comfortable pulling the motor out and dissasembling it yourself

Re: rod bearings

JG would be best, but that job is also pretty easy with a bottle hone and a drill.

Eagle cranks for mitsus are junk. Ask MAP about them.

Re: rod bearings

If you get an eagle crank, expect that it will need machining out of the box. They usually have a big ol' tag on them right out of the box saying so.

And FWIW, I have only ran King bearings. And so far so good.
