Thumbs down My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3

Let pictures do the talking

Those two gears have a bunch of broken teeth. Is that fourth gear?

Think the teeth sheared off, got stuck behind the ring gear and blew out the case there?

And you say I'm hard on transmissions...

Edit, I thought you had a stage 4 trans... or is this another trans you broke already?

No, this is one I bought new like 3 years ago, has about 15,000 miles on it. Maybe 5,000 miles of 400ish whp. I will be emailing/calling them just to see what they say.

WOW that's crazy. How does that happen? Launching it to much or daily gear grinding. I really would like to know what my tranny looks like inside.

You can see some of the teeth are discolored. If that was due to heat wow. When i didnt know what i was doing, sharpening a drill bit in school. It had those exact same color spots as those teeth lol

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3

Was this during normal driving, NLTS'ing or just a hard pull in 3rd/4th?

They are not discolored. No signs of heat, no blueing, nothing. They just snapped off or something got in there.

I remember I heard a weird noise as I came to a stop, clutch in. Like a quick grinding. Car drove fine for a bit after but stated making a weird noise. I thought it was engine. So my solution? Took off from a light and try to go into fourth, that terrible loud grinding noise, like a gear trying to mesh with a fast spinning gear and not working. I babied it, as I was like a mile away from home, and everything was working as normal except 4th.

Then the next morning I went to inspect and huge puddle of gear lube under the car, and I saw broken case. Then I said, welp, there goes $2000....

First picture looks like wolverine took a slap at it. Pretty cool looking though. Sucks about the tranny.

Re: My Recently Blown Up Shep Stage 3

That's really f*cked up then if it was just normal driving and all that carnage happened. I hope Shep will do something for you in this case.

That is fourth gear, which is the most prone for breaking. It is because nobody ever tromps on it in 5th, so fourth gear gets the most load behind it.

It appears it chipped off, then its teeth got behind your front differential and cut your tranny.

I've heard about that, and guessed that happened here. But I thought that only happened to higher hp/tq cars?

And yes, I beat on this thing sometimes.

Used Penzoil Syncromesh. I have tried the redline cocktail and didn't like it.
