Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

The HD's are nice, I wish I had the same 10.5:1's in my car now as I had in the Evo.

Can't go wrong with some HD's I run them in the evo and race machine.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

After pricing out just rods and pistons, a used motor and from someone like Jet looks more like a possibility.

I'll have to update this thread soon with some pics, I've been getting some parts in and well that usually deserves a picture update.

Yeah, a short block like mine from MAP is $3,700. It adds up fast. You also know mine was put together right as it has already made decent power and has low miles.

Jet, why are you parting yours out, lost that lovin' feeling? If it helps any, putting mine back to a streetable 2.4/16g car has made it loads more fun than it was with the big turbo/twin disk setup. Must be an old guy thing as a lot of the old NABR members are doing the same thing.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

I don't want to mess up Brown's thread, I will post one in a few days. I got another DSM that is running and well modded that I will be driving for a bit. After that I am moving up to a 911 twin turbo, hopefully next summer. The silver car has no FMIC, Exhaust or turbo on it and I don't feel like putting the time and effort in it just to sell it again in a year.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

GTFO! Old school DSMers!

I keed I keed. I think its a natural thing for people to go big turbo and then back to small esp. if they have had issues or just plain old havent had time for the thing.

To be honest I wish I had a house big enough to just park this thing in a corner and just work on it on the rare occasion I have time.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

pic dump time:

Injector resistor pack delete. It doesn't look that ugly in person.

Engine after getting it running finally:

Car before it left our old place, the old center spoiler mounting clips were already cracked and pretty worthless once I took the spoiler off so I plugged the wiper hole for now, I'll have to weld something up since no-one stocks the clips I need.

I had a friend delete the wiper hole from the stock center piece, then i thought I should get the sides done too since it would look really goofy.
Before:

After:

I also picked up a shorty billet antenna, i think it looks great.

I also got a custom mount for my V1 so it sits up under the rear view mirror, now I can finally install it cleanly.

I ordered up some custom quick release bumper brackets because R&R'ing my bumper is a pain and usually a 2 man job, i'll snap some better pics when I install.

I've also wanted one of these (FAL dual fan setup), but didn't want the $400 pricetag that usually comes with them. Luckily I found one without said price tag.

Finally my piece de resistance, Infill G4 touchscreen car pc. I got this for dirt and it doesn't even look used. It's always been my dream to get a car pc since I started using link and now I have one! Has built in bluetooth, GPS, windows XP. (pictures suck)

Nice! So are you going to be able install to install link on the carputer? That would be pretty sweet

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Of course I will, it has 1 front USB and 2 rear inputs. It runs windows XP so whatever I can put on that OS i can put on here. It has a 40GB HD, but I know just like other computers you can mod them. A lot of people have installed SSD's in their Infill systems.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Wow, that is cool. I wanted to do the carputer when people were making their own, didn't realize they had them in that nice of package. That would sure beat keeping a laptop on the seat.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Wow been a little bit.
Well work is slowing down a bit, only 40 hr weeks for a while so I'm able to put some time into the car. I ended up with a used longblock from a local, thank you. It runs great and feels very strong.
Actually this is probably the first motor I have had that is good because I cannot turn the motor by hand like I could with all my past motors, I understand why people want the plugs out when trying to turn the motor by hand.

9/22/12 - Getting started on the motor pull. blackawdtsi came over to help. It for sure wouldn't of happened so quickly without his help. Thanks again.

9/22/12 - I was an idiot and decided to install my dual Flex-A-Lite Fan setup, made for a lot more headache, but I'm glad its on there. It moves over 2000cfm of air!

On a side note, people stop running damn zip ties through perfectly good radiators! Holy crap. I know have a SPAL 14" fan for sale!

9/22/12 - New motor on stand. Stock bottom end, 2G head with full Evo valvetrain.

9/22/12 - Bye bye old motor.

9/22/12 - Out finally.

9/22/12 - Trying to get out what I thought would be the impossible crank bushing, but giant thanks to Wade for the advice. Mofo is a genius.

9/22/12 - Left is the old, right is the new. Time to swap manifolds and cams.

9/22/12 - Swapping parts time.

9/22/12 - Pulling stock cams out, largest stock cams though.

9/22/12 - Thanks to Tom Woo for all the help it definitely wouldn't of happened without him.

9/22/12 - Tom is also to thank for all these pics.

9/22/12 - Shawn Carroll showed up and helped out a ton, thank you so much.

9/22/12 - Getting the motor in for the first time. I effed up and put on the flexplate backwards.

9/22/12 - Installing downpipe and such, almost done.

9/22/12 - Shawn liking my shiny S90 TB.

9/22/12 - Tom taking random pics, kind of strange at this point.

9/22/12 - Tightening downpipe.

9/22/12 - FAL dual fan setup installed. Very tight fit, I need to hurry up and get rid of the baby turbo.

9/22/12 - Ready to be started, sadly the battery was dead.

Plan is to burp the cooling system, car was running really hot, I ordered a new battery. Hopefully get the car running solid for this weekend.

Nice productive weekend!

FYI, the pictures seem to be not working?

Edit: viewed them on FB, now they are showing up... strange.
