Building a 15g 3KGT VR4, need opinions

I had boomslang install that into the harness when I ordered it. I did have a question though, I know you have to clip a resistor in the MAFT-Pro unit to be able to monitor timing, but is this only to monitor on the unit itself or can you monitor timing with TunerProRT without clipping the resistor?
