Re: Stolen: 1991 Galant VR-4
dude that is kind of spooky. I remember going to look at it earlier in the spring before I bought my GSX. I even took it for a test drive. Sorry to hear about that.
I am definatly going to lock my doors now.

Re: Stolen: 1991 Galant VR-4
Well what do you know? I get a call from the local po-po this morning and my beloved GVR-4 has been found. After sitting in the parking lot of the F*&^%$#@ tow company for 6 hours waiting for the locksmith and then a flatbed, I got it towed back to my shop. The thieves have been driving it around and were even nice enough to put in a new battery, a factory stereo and give it a wax job! The only thing they took from the car was the replacement steering rack I had in the trunk, the dash vin tag and swapped out my ignition for one with a key for their personal use. The car has no other damage and looks exactly like I had it. The funny thing is it was towed for not having plates on it, I'm not sure if it was abandoned or not, it doesn't sound like it.
Scheides, now you can get off your proscrastinating ass and pick this sweet honey up. I'll check on the vin tag thing tomorrow. And I'll sweeten the price as well, I don't want this thing sitting around to get stolen again.

Re: Stolen: 1991 Galant VR-4
Congrats and Good Deal. I would say invest in a immobilizing alarm like the previous owners of my car did. Or a dethachable steering wheel, they make really nice ones that u just push on and they lock in place and when u take it off u can put a lock on it so they cant just put a different steering wheel on.

It's a car for sale, so I'm not going to pimp it out with some elaborate alarm system, I'll just sell it.

Re: Stolen: 1991 Galant VR-4
So Steve, what is your plans to help prevent future thefts? This is the 2nd one now I believe, that I know about. Do you have those anti-theft devices that go on the windows like large dealers have or aren't those any good?

Good deal. I was kinda pissed off when I heard someone was fucking with your stuff, you were a really nice guy to me and not the stereotypical shady used car salesman. I was actually thinking about it two days ago, wondering if you got it back. What are you asking for it?

Glad to see you got it back! I can't believe someone would be dumb enough to drive a stolen car around with no plates.

Re: Stolen: 1991 Galant VR-4
I'm putting in a camera system to monitor everything inside and out here, and I've taken some steps to make it tougher to take cars I think might be of interest to thieves. I've also thought about getting two large killer dogs and naming them Satan and Lucifer, although the neighbors might frown on that. The things you used to see on windows at big dealerships are keyboxes.
Now I've got well over $2500 into it, but I'd consider offers around or slightly below that price. It still needs a power steering rack, unless the thieves put in the one I had in the trunk and just didn't bleed the system properly yet.

Yeah, you would think that since they went as far as having another ignition put in so they could use their own key, that they would have gotten plates for another galant, just in case a cop ran their plates or something.

Glad to hear you got that bad boy back. I'd still like to run over the thieves with that VR4. God knows they deserve it!

Re: Stolen: 1991 Galant VR-4
I'd love to get ahold of that car....
Glad you got it back, best thing that could have happened really. Most of the time you'd find the car with no engine, tranny, or anything else.
GL selling it, if it's not sold by mid summer i'll contact you. Have some finances i have to take care of first.

Re: Stolen: 1991 Galant VR-4
It obviously had plates on it, not the ones I had on it though. Something went awry and they pulled the plates and left it. My guess on the whole scenario is the thieves put a different ignition in it and pulled the vin tags, then sold it for $1000 cash or something like that and that person drove it til it needed some work, then pulled the plates and left it. Either that or it'll be on the next Cops show being used for some crime and outrunning those heavy-ass squad cars.
