VR-4: No Spark + No Fuel = No Start

Last night I was driving the VR-4 near the car dealership strip in my local area, and it suddenly lost both fuel and spark and came to a stop. I tried starting it, and it restarted, but roughly, and then it died and won't start now. If you crank the key, you can hear the starter turning over, but there is no spark or fuel. I had the car towed home, and it's sitting in my driveway. At this point I have no idea what it could be, I checked my MPI fuse and relay and they are good. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

If i'm not mistaken, the the CAS will still let the fuel pump come on?

TPS has nothing to do with having spark or fuel. The CAS would cause no spark. Fuel would be controlled by the relay. How exactly did you check the relay? Can you hear the ECU turning on? Power transistor connector plugged in and tight?

How would that cause no fuel or spark?

You are sure that you have both no spark and no fuel? It is wierd to loose both. Did you try swapping an ECU?

How is your timing belt? If it broke you will have no Cas input and it could've taken out your crank sensor

Re: VR-4: No Spark + No Fuel = No Start

CAS also controls the fuel pump. The pump gets a signal from the CAS to turn on and off. Does the VR4 have the bypass harness on the firewall like the 1g to test the pump. If the pump works then I would loosen the CAS and rotate it left and right and hear to see if the fuel pump cycles. If you don't hear the pump then borrow a CAS to test or use a Multi-Meter and test the CAS like listed in the repair manual.

Re: VR-4: No Spark + No Fuel = No Start

The starter cranks normally, but the engine won't start - At least you know that the starter is working. If the starter cranks but the engine won't start, there could be wide range of problems. Here are some of the most common:
- Problems with fuel delivery system (e.g bad fuel pump, fuel pump relay, clogged fuel screen, etc.)
- Problem with engine electronics (e.g crank sensor, cam sensor, air flow sensor, power relay, engine computer, etc.)
- Ignition system problems, especially on older vehicles with the distributor (e.g bad ignition coil, commutator, rotor, distributor cap, etc.)
- Defective ignition switch
- Problems with vehicle security system
- Internal engine problems (e.g broken timing belt or gear, low compression, etc.)

Re: VR-4: No Spark + No Fuel = No Start

A engine needs 3 things to run: fuel, spark, and compression. I would test for spark, test to see if the injectors are firing, and do a compression test. Did you run out of gas? does the ecu smell like dead fish or burnt electronics, I would swap the ecu out for a known good ecu. Test the MPI relay, this turns everything on, fuel pump and ecu.
