More wiring issues

So, after driving to the mall today, and everywhere else under the sun, the car was just fine. Then, on my way to a party tonight, the car starts ticking from under the dash. I guessed it was that MPI fuel relay (gold box under the radio area). I unplugged that relay, as my fuel pump is wired to a switch instead (battery to fuse to switch to pump to ground-on when the switch is on) but, with that MPI relay unplugged the car wouldn't start. I don't get why, as I thought I by-passed it, but I guess not. So, I plugged it back in, and drove around on it to, and now from that party. The car runs and drives as well as it did, but you hear that damn relay ticking away sparatically in the backround. Also, when trying to boost, the car breaks up badly around 4k rpm-almost wants to die cause it's missing. What could be going on, and anyone have ideas on how to fix/bypass that switch?

Re: More wiring issues

Get rid of that switch, try a new relay.
I hate switches for stuff, if you don't need a switch for something then get rid of it.

Re: More wiring issues

which switch? I'd rathe wire the whole car off a moroso switch panel, and cut out the stock wiring harnesses. if it's not needed, then I don't want it.

this relay in there right now is brand new, as of 5 months ago.

You answered your own question by not taking his advice and you just said it's brand new and is 5 months old.

Re: More wiring issues

SOunds like you are trying to build a race car.
Check out gary chios, he makes custom harnesses for DSM "race cars" it cuts out everything that you don't need for a normal car, like mine.

Re: More wiring issues

for now, I wish to figure out the problem with why the relay is clicking. I don't have time to cut out the harness, nor do I have another car to drive.

Re: More wiring issues

The MPI relay also sends power to the ECU, so you did not have spark or injectors. I would think its a power/ground issue for the relay, or its bad.

Re: More wiring issues

how could it be bad, after only 5 months of use? Could that have been the beginning of the revving issue i had?

Re: More wiring issues

It is possible, electical things in cars will last for ever or go bad almost right away. If the relay was not mounted or something it could have ratled it self apart, or it is a power/ground issue to the relay it self.

Re: More wiring issues

^^ I agree check your ground. I had a similar issue with my fuel pump relay because my ground was loose. I would bog down at full throttle. Did not know this was the issue until. I got stranded and notice that my fuel pressure was reading zero. If I did not have a fuel pressure gauge. I would of never known that it was the relay.
