If I am not hanging with the woman that night I could swing by to help, just text if you need it.

I'd love one but I don't think I do actually! It sure would let me do this entire job by myself if I have to, but that sure is no fun!

Re: beaterX project thread
Stuff happened. Dropped motor out in about an hour of goofing around. Would recommend this method to any X owner, it was almost painless. Only snag is really being careful about seperating the steering column.
Once we used the hoist to get the engine on the ground we bolted up to the engine mount points and started lifting:
Didn't have to go nearly as high as you would expect, only about a foot:
Then roll it out the side:
Engine is very stable on two wheel dollies and some 2x12's, can move it around without fear of tipping or anything.
Clear the decks, then lower chassis back down nice and slow.
End result is a bunch of shit out of the car, super easy to disassemble...:
...an empty engine bay...:
...and a happy scheides
Thanks Rosey, Spaz, Shawn, Murlo, and Anna! Having extra hands is always a huge plus--safety first!
Once it was out I spent about an hour or so and popped off axels, all manifolds, accessories, turbo system (as a whole), etc then put her to bed for the night:
Final shoutout to Ron@RS for giving me this idea of going 'out the bottom' it was way easier than I thought it would be!

Re: beaterX project thread
That's cool that you took it out the bottom, my dad always says it'd be easier but I never believed him.
When you put it all back together will you have to get an alignment because you took so many things apart?

I don't really think so, the strut bolts will all go back in the way they came out (arrows in on top bolts), the subframe bolts are immobile, the tie rods and everything else is untouched other than being lowered to the floor. Steering rack will need to be bled but as long as I get the steering wheel back in straight there should be no other problems.

lmfao that was the most amazing thing I've seen in a while man! Frickin dude pulls the head off my air compressor and examines cyl walls, piston, and then yanks a make-a-gasket roll off the shelf of my garage, cuts out a new one, slaps it in and shit is golden. Unreal.

Unsure, life and work are my first priorities...lots going on so the car will get my attention when I have time. I'll get the block/trans apart and on the stand over the next few days or early next week, make sure the head still looks good, and go from there. Just hoping to have it back together and broken in by early June.

Nice! Who are you going to have tune your air compressor?

Re: beaterX project thread
Nice! Just gotta put everything back together now or what?
I could never do an engine with buckets on my own. Seems way too complicated for this dumb ass prison guard.

Once you've done it a few times it's not so bad
Injectors are in the mail to FIC to get cleaned/tested and I think its time to buy some new flywheel bolts. I have to unmount the current shortblock and unpack/clean up the new one...I may assemble the longblock tomorrow but I need to decide about getting the flywheel turned and a few other things so I don't think I'll get too much further than that.
