Re: Sick of plugwires!
Well I have a full machine shop so that helps alot, but anyways... You just get coils out of a Intrepid 2.7 liter and make a mounting plate, then all there is left to do is wire it, i had to modify the coils tho because i wanted them to sit flush.
So heres is the Parts Break down
Coils $30 Ebay
Aluminum $10
Coil to get pug off $10 used
Total $50 <----
I will draw up a wiring diagram for you in a bit, i only know how to wire 1G tho, maybe 2G is the same they cant be that much different

Re: Sick of plugwires!
I looked at doing that several years ago, but once I got the coils I gave the project away. Those coils are absolute crap. Some of the cheesiest things I have ever seen. I am still toying with putting some LS2 coils on though.

Re: Sick of plugwires!
ehh they work fine for me so far, not a misfire yet. I dont remember all the benefits, dwell time, no more arcing, and more consistant spark i believe. I have heard about 20x more people that say they like them so i went ahead and tried it out and so far im glad i have.

Re: Sick of plugwires!
i wonder if they can supply a sufficient spark at 8000+ rpm.

Re: Sick of plugwires!
That is pretty sweet. I have a question though, what coils do the aftermarket coil-on-plug setups use?

Re: Sick of plugwires!
well i have heard that some look identical to the intrepid coils but they claim that they are not off an intrepid, who knows tho they would never admit because then you would be able to duplicate it easily

Re: Sick of plugwires!
You should sell them, not all of us have a machine shop, but I know alot of people would buy em, if you could sell the whole thing for $80 that would cover your time/parts
or build just the plate and sell that alone, I would buy one for sure, i hate plug wires

I don't know exactly what coils they use, but my Buschur COP has gone over 8000+ rpm at 30 psi with no mis-fires.

Re: Sick of plugwires!
I have read a little about this and most people said they use the 2000+ 300M coils. They dont need to be cut down or modified like the intrepid ones do. I say the plate on ebay going for $70+ alone. Id say there is a big market for the plates. Where did you get the pigtail to plug into the coils?

Re: Sick of plugwires!
Yeah, the 300M coils are the ones that are used, and that is what I had and gave away.
If you run them with a stock ECU you are probably losing performance. You have wasted spark stock and the coils are made for sequential ignition, so their dwell time probably isn't as short as what you need. I believe DSMlink can do sequential ignition and I know AEM can.

Yeah, half the people who have them don't even know why they really need them... kind of like MAF-T's.
