3.5 Stroker, Precision 5857 Billet Wheel, E85 3000GT

Hey all,

I posted my build thread up on MNSC and MN3S. Someone just recommended this forum, and I had a login from a ways back.

I will update this as the thread goes on, but here is the overview of the build so far. Im not cutting any corners on this build, and have been in direct talks with the top builders of the 3/S platform prior to making any decisions on which route to take.

So far, it stands like this.

I started with my two owner 94VR4, me being the second owner. This was honestly my dream car from way back in the days of Grand Turismo, for the PS. I searched for a clean, low mileage, documented car, and found this one out of Lincoln VA. I talked to the owner a few times on the phone, and sent a military buddy of mine up from Little Creek VA to check it out. The car was as described, so I booked a flight out, bought it, spent the night, and left the next day.

The owner was a car enthusiast, mechanic and avid collector. This was his driver, and he also had a mint 99VR4 with 8k on the clock, and a 91VR4, with 14k on the clock. When I bought this car, it had 47k on it, and before I bought it, he tore it down, replaced the bearings, rings, and a full 60k overhaul. I drove all back roads for the first 300miles, stopped in a Walmart parking lot, changed the oil, and drove another 200 miles on back roads, got a hotel room, and changed the oil again in the parking lot. I was in love with the way the car handled, drove, and performed.

I got it home in late Aug of 2008, and drove the piss out of it. I added 15G turbo's, gutted the pre-cats, an IPS 3" catless downpipe, 560cc injectors, and a hotwire kit on the fuel pump. I changed out all the fluids, and changed out the breaks and rotors for drilled and slotted.

3 days after getting everything all in, I took it out for a spin untuned just to play with it, and see if there was any difference. Even untuned, there was a huge gain in performance, and I knew with a tune it would get better. That night, I spun a rod bearing. I was on my way to pick up my wifes best friend from the airport, and it started knocking right by the Vet Cemetery. I pulled over, called a tow truck, and had it towed to DB. It honestly sat there until now, and I am going all out.

*Details in next post*

Re: 3.5 Stroker, Precision 5857 Billet Wheel, E85 3000GT

When I made up my mind on what I was doing with it, I decided that I wanted to go all out. I talked to Dan at DB, and we discussed a few options. I did a bunch of research on what I really wanted, and made up my mind on a 1000awhp plus build. It wasnt going to be cheap, but when done right, as several of the big shop cars show, they last and run like raped apes.

I picked up a new 3.5 Billet Ray Pampena/Merkel Racing Stroker. The heads are IPS stage 5 race heads, with all the options IPS offers, and sent off for a ceramic heat coating. The cams are a custom grind, about like a 272. The profile was designed to fit with the flow of the heads, and to power the turbo's with the extra flow the 3.5 will be pushing. Holding this in place, are Maximal Solid Motor Mounts.
Precision 5857 Billet wheel with the anti surge option are the turbo's, and are fitted to modified DR T3 manifolds. Tial 38mm wastegates will wrap that part of the build up.

I planned initially to run a pump gas tune, but after seeing the compressor maps of these turbo's on other cars, and researching E-85, I really wanted to go that route. For that, I ordered up a pair of Walbro intank pumps, and will be running a pair of inline Bosch 044 pumps, fueling ID2000 (2200cc) injectors, all controlled by AEM Ver2. Ignition will be delt with by AEM, with an HKS Twinfire setup powering stock coils.

Boost will be routed through a custom 24x18x4" IC core, with a custom intake manifold, and a q45 TB. Gene of Genes Performance, is taking care of the fabrication of those pieces. To get rid of the exhaust gases, Im looking at a Titanium Pitroad M 4" TBE. I might possibly go with an IPS setup, depending on how quickly I can get either here, and how they look on the car. Im waiting for a few pics from owners of both.

The trans was something I really wanted to focus on, as people have alot of issues with the driveline on these high HP builds. I started with a new factory 6spd, and installed the billet bellhousing brace, billet end housing, billet shift forks, and a maximal t-case bracket. I also have installed, a SCE Center Diff, as well as a SCE front, and Kaaz Rear Diff. For the clutch, I went with a Pitroad M Carbon/Carbon triple plate clutch. They can hold upto 1200ft lb of Tq, with only 40% more pedal feel, and very streetable engagement. Not cheap, but worth it in the long run. Im currently waiting on a set of 300M rear axles from Ray Pampena, and possibly a CFDS to top it off. The only thing that I am lacking have not been developed yet, and those are a set of hardened TC gears, which are in development, and will be going in as soon as they are available.

Suspension wise, all new bushings will be going in, as well as a set of Pitroad M/buddy club coil overs, with the Pitroad M camber arms. Im undecided on wheels and brakes, but will be making that decision here shortly.

Body, I have a full set of Pitroad M CF widebody fenders, 99 front bumper and turns, and a Kaze front lip. Side skirts will either be Pitroad M, or possible a custom Cianci set that I have been in talks with him about. I have an authentic Pitroad M CF hood, but might be looking at the new Cianci Evil Eye hood they just came out with, in CF. For a rear bumper, as of now Im sticking with a stock 94 bumper, with a 91 rear garnish and new tails, all smoked. Im going to paint the body a dark metal flake grey, or gunmetal, with the CF exposed.

I think that is about it for now. I have a crapload of parts coming, and have some little things worked out, like the anodizing of the engine bay components, and the interior setup, but all in all, its coming together pretty quickly.

I will be posting up pics in the next posting, but need to get some first. Right now its just a bunch of parts laying around, and an empty engine bay car.

Twin 5857? The 3.5 will make evo3 16gs spool like 9bs.

the car is black right now. Im talking to Tom from mnsc about getting it in there for paint soon.

Pushit2.0, true, and I did look at that, but im still stuck with the limit of 16g's, and Im looking for way more power then they can push.

Sounds like a bunch of cash thrown at a 11 year old car. Good luck with the build, anxiously awaiting results.

Nah but seriously, sounds awesome. I have been drooling over 3/s' for the past month. I'd like to see this (maybe take a ride in it?) someday. Never been in a fast stealth lol. Oh, and if this thing goes boom, and you decide to partout, I'll take one of them turbos off your hands

Back from the dead. I was away on work for awhile, and just contacted DB yesterday about getting this going again. All parts save fuel stuff and a few small components are ready to go. Id like to see if we can't get this on the road by the late summer/early fall.
