Question Your opinion in Honing/De-glazing/Cylinder Re-building

Hey. I've been doing some searching and I seem to come across so many different views and answers for rebuilding an engine, Im more confused than anything.

Basically if i wanna do a 1g big rod/2g piston combo on a 6bolt, I know i have to do some fabricating. Rod shaving and boring cylinder walls in order to accept wrist pin etc. etc. But what I don't undestand is before I even start an engine rebuild.....

Cyliner Honing on a 91 TSI AWD 6bolt......(Is is mandatory when boring?)
Cross Pattern Hatch Angle? (40degree, 60degree?)
Cast Iron or Chrom/Moly Rings?
Grit Pattern(#240? #120?)
Resurfacing Deck? Re-Sleeving? (Are they Crucial?)
Forged or Aluminum Pistons? (If i grab forged Ross 8.5:1 Pistons, Do i need to get forged Rods too?)
Hone Aligning? Hone align the Mains?( What is this?)
Plateau Honing? & Ridging & De-glazing? (Not even sure what this is either)

After Honing Process.....
Cylinder Clearancing?
Should I Dry the block with Compressed Air?

If i missed a part that is crucial cylinder rebuild part. please post.
If you have no positive feedback. Just skip to the next thread.

Cheers
