Exhaust Piping

I have been doing a fair amount of exhaust work lately so I went out and bought a welder, cut off saw, big air compressor and all the other goodies I need to do it all at my house.

I like to do mostly stainless steel work, but I can also do mild steel if you are on a budget.

I have made a few systems unlike any other on the market. It is mandrel bent 3" stainless steel O2 housing. It is extra long so it can be run alone at the track. I connect that with a stainless steel V-band clamp to the down pipe. This makes it so that you can drop the exhaust with one bolt! I will have my system done shortly and I also did one like this for Brian Barton. Here is a pic of his:

More close-up pic's coming soon!

Where do you get your piping from? Just curious.

Piping from : http://www.burnsstainless.com/index.htm same place we get ours. I think he gets most of his from there. Their material quality rules. V Bands are about $75 each.

And thread stickied.

I will have a lot more photo's once mine gets done. That was just one that Brian took of his before install. The V-band is just above the O2 bung (if you want to see what it looks like). Normally it would be above it, but the Garrett that he uses was more difficult to make than a Mitsu exhaust housing.

I will have a hookup on V-bands shortly. These are 100% stainless too, most are only stainless for the clamp, the flanges on these are stainless too. That should ensure a good seal even if it is old.

I just got the tri-mix gas, so I am all set up for welding stainless. I will hopefully have pic's up tonight.

Hey, congrats on getting a welder. What one did you end up getting? Glad you are doing mild steel stuff, I won't touch it so at least there are other options out there for people who don't care about having SS.

Prices depend on the options you want. Send me a PM and we can figure it out from there.

Mike - I would rather not work with mild steel becuase it will not last as long as SS, but some people don't care if the exhaust will only last 5 years. I got a Hobart Handler 140. Like John's, but it goes higher and lower than his. It is basically the new model of his.

Alright, I just got in $700 worth of 3" and 2.5" stainless steel piping. I already had about $300 in stock and I have about $400 worth already spoken for in various projects. So if anyone needs something done quick, I have mandrel bends, straight pipe and flex sections in stock.

I am also getting some samples of some IC couplers in and I will be becoming a dealer for one of the brands pretty soon. I will try to stock anything fairly common to a DSM. I will have anything from standard couplers to hump couplers to reducers. Prices will be good and they will be available anytime.

JET are you leaning towards only building downpipes & O2 housings or are you able to build complete exhaust systems?

I am doing full exhaust systems (or any part of it) and IC piping. I work mainly in 2.5" and 3" stainless.

Is there any benefit to JUST doing a cat back exhaust with an after market muffler? I am going to get rid of the cat because i was told it does nothing but restrict and suck mileage on my car. If i did this, i would just do 2.5" cat back. My pipes are pretty rusty and what not. Pricing? If you dont care, i would be happy with mild steel or whatever it is called due to the cheaper cost. I am not in it for the performance increase so much.

Yes, a cat-back will be a decent increase in power. I basically only do SS for exhaust, it isn't much more that mild steel from the place I get it at. You really want a DP back exhaust (eliminate the cat, since it is a drag car I can do that ). PM me for pricing.
