how much power can a stock center diff handle

my wife just bought her 3rd dsm its a talon 93gtpeaters car
91 eagle talon

well we put a few upgrades on it the last few days and it really started making a ton of power and we yet to launch it

we were just doing 3rd gear pulls tuning the car today getting ready for races later on and we were doing another pull on 94 and we think we exploded the center diff and is now running on all viscous

car has a solid clutch no springs 6 puck

changed the turbo from a scm61 to a hx40 with super 40 wheel in a bep we were running 30 psi of boost i added another 255 and just were running around town

never been in a dsm that had a turbo hit as hard as this one while driving we noticed a slight slip but thinking it was the clutch ? but when were in gear it just goes and we can watch the speedo jumps as we hit the gas and car is not moving well

Re: how much power can a stock center diff handle

Power isn't really the factor here it's maintenance and how it was treated. Center diff's aren't really a problem unless you are constantly launching and don't have a good fluid in there. You number 1 easiest thing to do will be to drain the fluid and look for any signs of metal in there. Other than that another signs is making tight turns the front tires will pop as they are turning different speeds. Try making tight corners and listening for noise. Also raise the vehicle all the way off the ground and listen to the transfer case and diff's. It does however sound like a clutch issue though.

Re: how much power can a stock center diff handle

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't an exploded center diff result in a totally non-driving car with a giant hole in the trans case? Every time I've seen an exploded diff that's usually what goes along with it.

If exploded yes. But more commonly the gears weld themselves together or the washers wear out. You can even lose teeth off the spider gears without exploding it.

Re: how much power can a stock center diff handle

Can you explain more of what it is doing? With the Speedo jumping that is leading me to believe it is the center diff or later in the drivetrain, center diff shouldn't have been a problem unless it was already damaged.

Try looking at your output shaft splines as well, I've had them strip causing the same clutch slipping feel you're talking about.
