Tranny problems, 99 RS

99 Eclipse RS, 126K, auto.

A friend’s car. No previous symptoms. He drove about 40-50 miles on the way out of town and stopped at a gas station to grab some drinks for the road. Got back in the car and it only has 2nd and reverse. There is a CEL but my buddy doesn’t have the right cable for his snap-on tool yet, that should be here the beginning of next week. Drove the car all the way back and the problem isn’t correcting itself. Has anyone else run into this? Any guesses on if it’s a computer or hardware problem? I should point out that his wife drives the car so it’s never beat upon. Any help would be great.

Re: Tranny problems, 99 RS

I would guess that it is a "safe mode". I did a little search and found this, not sure if it will help. http://www.plymouthlaser.com/tcucodes.htm All you need is a multimeter.

I know similar problems have been gone over on this forum before so it might not be a bad idea to search the archives here. The other thing you could do is search www.dsmtuners.com , I think they have a AT specific section.
