Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Will do. Otherwise I am sure MAP would swap them out for you pretty quick.

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

If all else fails I'll be in the Cities this weekend delivering a head to someone. Then with any luck I'll be buying a head for myself! I have a compressor and even seals if you want to replace them.

Nice looking car BTW.

-Thanks, but I'm hoping to have the head done by Friday so I can break her in and get it back to Duluth. If I end up not doing that I will let you know.

-Yeah if you don't have it then I will see how much MAP charges for replacing valvesprings and go from there. Hopefully it doesn't cost more than the tool itself.

No go on my tool. It was probably either lose or given away when I got away from DSM's. This is what I had though. Works awesome, http://store.kingsperformance.com/pr...vo8-9-dsm-4g63

I'd help you too, and also have seals, but I am a little too busy to have it done before Friday

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

I used an 8 or 10in c - clamp and a socket that I milled the center out of and a magnetic small flat blade screw driver worked awesome , also used a thick pad on the decked surface so I didn't make a booboo if you're around this weekend I can give you a hand

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Thanks guys but I'm trying to get this done before the end of the week since I'm on spring break. Kind of a tight squeeze but so far so good. I went to Harbor Freight today and picked up a universal valvespring compressor for $12.99. It looks like it might work. I'll get back to you guys on Thursday and let you know how it went. I also picked up a brand new set of Dks 272's + shims for $240. Pretty excited to get all these parts installed!

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

Well I got everything installed over spring break. Car started on the first crank and everything went amazing! She drove perfectly fine over the break-in period with only a few specs of glitter from the first 30 miles. The oil was super clean after the 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 mile oil changes. I've driven her to and from Duluth 4 times now. It is now reaching the 1800 mile mark and she started knocking yesterday. I've never opened her up besides a few quick bursts to 5k rpms which were after 1500 miles. The bearings that were used for the rebuild were ACL trimetals.

I'm going to change the oil this Saturday to see if there are metal shavings to confirm if it is the bearings. Good thing I have an extra set of ACL trimetals in the garage, any advice for changing the bearings from underneath the car?

Re: 6 bolt swap 97 tsi

UPDATE: It was a lifter tick. I have 3500 miles in her currently and have driven her to and from Duluth 8 times now. Just need to pick up a power steering belt and prep her for winter.
