Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I know it's not a DSM, but I figured some here might be interested in what's going on with the El Co.
Took it to the track about 2 weeks ago and couldn't make a full pass due to handling issues on the top end. It kept developing a bad rear end wobble once it got to 80+mph, bad enough that I couldn't stay in it. Also, those MT Sportsman S/R Radials were not hooking well at all (no surprise there).
Three passes averaged 2.2 60ft and mid 12's @ 85mph due to letting off about 2/3rds of the way thru each pass. Yeah, it sucked.
To fix the rear end wobble, I'm replacing all the 4-link bushings and installing a diagonal link this weekend. The diagonal link will allow removal of the pan hard bar that goes across the top of the diff housing which has kept me from lowering the rear of the vehicle. Once that is out of there I can lower the rear 1-2 inches to get more of a level stance out of it. Then I'll be ordering an anti-roll set up for the rear axle.
No dyno time yet because I've been waiting for my new toilet bowl to show up. It'll be installed this weekend too.

Got the diagonal link and new 4-link bushings installed this past weekend. Removed the pan-hard bar and lowered the rear 1 inch. I also move all the pivot points for the 4-link down at the axle housing and up at the chassis to get the geometery closer to where it needs to be. Rear end feels much better now.
Going to a friends race car shop tonight to install a SW Racing drag anit-roll bar.
I'll take pics once it's done. but here's some pics of how the body sits now.

Very nice! Reminds me a bit of the big block '72 El Co SS my friend had in high school. I still remember rowing that big floor shifter with the aluminum Hurst T-handle. Good times.

Just placed an order for the Griffin Exact Fit aluminum radiator Part# 6-70006 for the SS. Dual 1.25 tubes. We're not even into the hotest part of the year and temps started getting up over 210 deg while driving and getting heat soaked. Ordered it through Summit with a screw-in anode for the drain plug, new billet cap and new prothane support bushings. Also ordered two gallons of the BeCool premix to fill it with. Should be here Tuesday.

Spent some more time working on the El Co this Saturday.
Old fuel line (hated it!).
New fuel line (love it!)
It's a Jegs kit. Thing I like the most about it is that the tighening flats for the bowl tubes are away from the bowls. I never could get a 1 inch wrench to work well at the bowls due to lack of clearance.
I still need to install the Nitrous WOT switch.
I also ran a new fuel line from the regulator to the carb with a 30deg hose end to smooth out the angle.
This is/was my new 14 x 4 air filter, but had to take it back off as it hit the under side of the hood. Not the cowl, but the framework under the hood. The air cleaner, and I guess engine, sits a little closer to the passenger side of the car for some reason. If you were standing in front of the El Co looking at the air cleaner as a clock, it was hitting at the 10:00-11:00 position. A quarter of an inch is all that was in the way. Still trying to work this issue out.
While trying to find out why the air cleaner was hitting the underside of the hood I found the transmission mount was in two pieces. So I installed this Energy Suspension trans mount. Its beefy and well put together. And it's a "captured" mount that won't competely seperate like a factory mount. It raised the tail of the tranny about 1 inch which improved my drive line angles. Air cleaner still hit after replacing the mount.

New Griffiin "Exact Fit" radiator came in.
Core Size: 28.38X18.53X2.68 Dual 1.25 cores
Part Number: 6-70006
Nice piece for sure. Much beefier than the stock radiator. It's actually about 1/2 inch wider and taller which wasn't an issue. The core itself is much thicker than the original. But my SS was a non-a/c car so I guess the big core was left on the shelf at the factory. Definately explains the heat soaking. I did have to get a new lower hose (Gates 20441) as the radiator outlet is 1.75 inches. Also installed a zinc cathode in the drain location.
Also installed some new prothane insulators.
Unfortunately my dual fan setup will not fit now because the thicker core moved it into the water pump pulley.
