Well I apparently suck at drag racing, but it was pretty much my first time. I made three passes with my 2g about 4 years ago when it was almost stock, but that's it. I hadn't even tried launching the vette until Saturday at the drag strip. I only got a few practice runs in before the bracket started, and my times were rapidly improving but then I broke. I was running on my Nitto Invo street tires, and I forgot to let air out, so I was running 32psi in the rear, it was also balls hot and muggy.
First pass was 2.5s 60' and 13.8 @ 113mph or something like that. I gave it way too much gas at the starting line and spun through first, then when I hit 2nd it bogged since I really wasn't going that fast. Missed third gear.
Second pass I bogged off the line but got a 2.3s 60' and 13.2 @ 116mph. Missed third gear again.
Third pass I still bogged but a bit less and got a 2.1s 60' and 12.2 @ 121mph. Hit third that time.
Fourth and final pass I wheel hopped of the line, got a 2.0 60' and missed third YET AGAIN. Exhaust also came unbolted at the muffler, probably from the jarring of the wheel hopping. Fortunately the hangers kept it on the car, but I had to let it cool off and couldn't enter the bracket.
During normal shifting the car goes into 3rd like butter, no effort at all. A few people from the group I was with got video, and during the 2-3 shift my reverse lights come on. Apparently the sensor for going into reverse can go bad, causing the lights to come on during upshifts and the car thinks you're going into reverse, and you get locked out. I'm still looking into where the sensor is located and how much it costs to fix, but others have had the same thing happen. So that makes me feel better about the consistent missing of 3rd gear.

Anyway, I can't wait until my next drag racing event. The car has an easy mid 11 on the street tires, and maybe I'll eventually run the slicks once I improve my skills.
