is a 7 bolt from '93 better than 95+?

I hear that some 93/94 1g's had 7 bolts. Are these mechanically identical to the 2g 7 bolts? As in, still prone to crankwalk?

Not as prone to crank walk as a 2g, but it happens more than a 6 bolt. All 93/94's had a 7 bolt.

Aren't the 97+ 7 bolts less prone to crankwalk than any of them?

Re: is a 7 bolt from '93 better than 95+?

-89-92.5 6-bolts had a thrust bearing integrated with the center main bearing.
-92.5-94 7-bolts did not have a thrust bearing, but had 7.8:1 compression pistons.
-95-96 7-bolts were this worst 4g63 ever, no thrust bearings, prone to crank walk
-97-99 7-bolts, had separate thrust bearings, not the same as the 6 bolt, but gave the same type of support.

All 7-bolt engines have under-designed rods. prone to failure.

As I understand it , the late model 7-bolt is a better starting point then the 6 bolt. The crank is much stronger and the main caps are unified by a girtle, much much stronger, the oil pump makes less noise while running.

So...if I were to have a 2G, I would definately look into building up a late model 7-bolt, or have the thrust bearings machined in.

the rods on a 7-bolt are still retarded.

So, until then, factory 6-bolts for me!!!

I have seen multiples of every version of the DSM motors crankwalked.
