Not so much the over-rev, but the detonation of bouncing off the rev-limiter. The X plugs are much more fragile than anything the DSM/8/9's ever had to deal with, probably due to the smaller size; a lot of us have had a spark plug failure in one form or another.

Attempting to cover up the truth and lie will get you no where, especially if you attempt to take Mitsubishi to court. A quick inspection of your exhaust and intake bolts/clamps will immediately tell them the car has been modified (which they probably already found and documented), and if it comes down to it they can send your ECU back to Mitsu of Japan to access the flash counter which will show them it's been tuned too. You'll get further being honest...

Re: Going to battle it out with Mitsubishi

P.S. I speak from experience, I think I'm one of the few here who's gotten a major $$$ part covered by Mitsubishi on a modified Evo.

Re: Going to battle it out with Mitsubishi

Looks like people with new Evo's should buy a spare ECU and take their stock one out and put it on a shelf until something happens

Problem with that is everything is networked in the car on a data bus. So I am guessing they have some ability to store data on multiple items. They could, doesn't mean they do. Like they could maybe store data for cases like this on the TCU or ACD computer etc etc.

But not a bad idea there

Re: Going to battle it out with Mitsubishi

Mileage won't match up between the odometer and the ECU then...I can only imagine they're stored in different areas, otherwise it would be too easy to rollback the odometer. I think what it really comes down to is accepting responsibility for your actions. Warranties are not designed to cover aftermarket modifications. If an engine was modified and tuned, why should Mitsubishi cover it? I'm still in the 5/60 powertrain coverage, but if I were to blow up I sure wouldn't be blaming Mitsubishi (just like Scheides and Murlo didn't when theirs blew).

Trogdor, it really sucks that your rod failed and put a hole in your block and I do feel bad for you so please don't take my statements as anything they're not, that is not my intention.

I agree with Kracka, if you are going to play you have to be willing to pay. Also you are screwed. In the thread Scheides linked to it has Max Pressure listed in the ECU, which is boost pressure in Kpa.

Yep. This is why a mod $3k cars not $30k+ cars. I don't feel comfortable at this point in my life to toy around with and risk something that expensive. Maybe someday when I win the lotto (or BAC hits $40)
