Haha it seems super quiet on the dyno, maybe it sounds better in person.

Re: Project Lex
Yeah I've been ripping around in it a bit. Taken a hand full of people for a spin and it feels pretty deng good I think. It's not what the Talon was, but that's OK, I'm still having a blast driving it. It's been awhile since I've driven something with some cojones!
Got into a little tussle with a G37 coupe and pulled away from him, winning

Re: Project Lex
Just figured I'd update this, with the fact that there is nothing to update Since the dyno appointment, the car has been driven nearly 5 days/week, and has made several 500 mile round trips to Fargo and back. Not too many issues, so haven't touched a thing for the most part. The only issue that came up was one time the clutch slipped in 4th, but I think that was partially my fault for slipping it during normal driving/shifting too much that day, and also right before that pull. Hasn't slipped since. Man it's so nice to be able to just hop in, turn the key, and just go without having to tinker around or anything. Idles great, drives great, and still feels strong under WOT (already has a few kills under her belt). The exhaust note is pretty much perfect (with the exception of the WG dump, not a fan), sounds nearly stock when just cruising around, yet a bit louder when under WOT but not obnoxiously loud. I'm real happy with the spool time as compared to the Talon. This turbo so far seems to have been a perfect street/strip setup for my taste, with a great balance between power and lag. I'm sure the removal of ~6' of piping this winter will improve the spool by a few hundred RPM as well
Car has been a blast to drive, I'm excited every time I hop in. Even let some others ride/drive it, and they mostly have nothing but good to say. I'm equally as excited for winter to arrive so I can tear into her again and hopefully have it ready for 600hp in the spring!!
Plans this winter are:
- Homemade Front Facing Intake Manifold (eliminate ~6' of piping)
- IS300 COP/Wasted Spark ignition setup
- Tranny and rear diff (haven't fully decided on what to run yet)
- Zinc coated brake rotors (all I can find are slotted and/or drilled, anyone know where to find blank/solid rotors that are zinc'd?)
- Re-paint calipers (they look pretty beat up)
- Wheel spacers for the front wheels
- Recirc WG dump back into exhaust
So once again, big thanks to all the local shops and individuals for hooking me up with great parts, service, and tune. I couldn't have wished for anything better

Re: Project Lex
So do MkIV's and IS300's run the same kind of ignition stock?

Re: Project Lex
Man, that is really good to hear! Having a reliable fun car is what I have always loved owning an evo, I'm glad this car is doing you so well!
Don't take this the wrong way, but you said perfect street/strip combo....have you taken it to the drag track at all yet? Any plans to do so? Just curious.

Re: Project Lex
I believe it is identical to the Supra N/A VVTi ignition, but is not the same as a Supra TT ignition (6 coil COP). The IS300 system is similar to a DSM wasted spark w/ 1 coil per 2 cylinders, except the 3 coils are COP instead of remotely mounted. Here's an idea of what it looks like.
As for the strip, yeah I definitely want to go. But not going until I get a stronger drivetrain setup, so maybe next year. I need to figure out what I'm going to do drivetrain, and get that done this winter.

Re: Project Lex
sounds just like a Evo ignition, with COP, 2 cylinders per coil.
Maybe then you can get an intake on that turbo

Re: Project Lex
I would eventually like to address suspension, but might not be in the budget for this winter. I'm still not 100% sure of what the current suspension is. I believe it is Eibach Pro-Kit springs (not sure if they are SC300 or Supra), and the shocks look OEM (not sure if they are stock SC300 or Supra).
I've heard that it's a bad idea to mix n match SC300 suspension parts with Supra suspension parts (i.e. Supra springs w/ SC300 shocks). So I'd like to eventually have it all be Supra parts because there are more options for Supra vs. SC300. No idea what actual components I'd go with yet, I'd need to research a bit. A Supra Pro-Kit w/ Supra AGX's might be a decent cost effective setup though.

Re: Project Lex
Well winter plans for Teh Bean may be on hold for awhile. Just got engaged, so this winter I will be focused more on wedding planning and house hunting since one of us will be moving (I live here, she lives in Fargo). Exciting stuff

Some how I get a text. Bman- "I'm watching Brokeback and you remind me of him." I'm kinda worried, should someone go check on him?
