Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Some pics:

It looks to me like the valve cover is leaking good and the middle exhaust stud seems to be leaking too.

This is my first time pulling the valve cover. Does everything look alright in there from the pic? lol

Figured out my pcv valve is actually preventing the engine to breath which would explain how much shit is in my catch can. I can just drill it out or hollow it out right? I do not have it hooked up to the intake manifold.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

I saw some insane wire tuck jobs on vw's and honda's and really got inspired:

What the hell is this^? Can I cut it off and leave just the metal line?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

That line is the vent for the gas tank. You shouldn't have it blocked off cause when the fuel vaporizes it needs somewhere to go. But yea remove the rubber hose and you can just leave the metal line open. Too bad you're so far away otherwise I'd gladly help out.

Here is some inspiration for ya!

I want to pull the whole harness out and route it through a custom hole I will make next to the shifter cables. I've seen all these VW's with their super clean engine bays. I want to shock people when I open the hood. lol

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Got the tranny out in about an hour with everything out of the way.

To me it looks like those black springs aren't sticking out like they should.

I'll pull the clutch off tonight when I have a friend over to keep the motor from rotating. I have easter dinners to attend today.

This is how clean I aim to make my engine bay:

Granted, our firewalls aren't that smooth, but it's good to set your goals high, right?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Got the clutch off last night and took some pics. Looks to me like the material holding the springs in on the side they broke is much thinner than the other side. That plus me dumping the clutch for fun did it in.

The PP looks good to me though. Can I just find a different disc and throw that in without messing with the pp and flywheel? This crap has like 4k miles on it.

You can just buy a disk and reuse the pressure plate and flywheel.

Thats what I was hoping.

I took the tranny into work last night after close and degreased the piss out of it and pressure washed it. It looks about 50 times better but it still has that aluminum varnish that won't come off without some scrubbing. Is there a trick to getting it off easy or will a sandblasting take care of it?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

How harsh are 6 puck clutches really? I'm not asking from a dd point of view. I'm talking a fun car for weekends and nice days. I'm thinking about going with a stronger 6 puck disc instead of a street disc.

Here's some current status pics. Been working pretty slowly on it. Sanding the whole engine bay by hand is a pain in the ASS. I've just got a few more holes to sand down to bear metal then I'll be slapping on the bondo.

I modified the engine mount and am quite happy with the clean look. I'm not leaving that paint on there, I shot it on to test out a color and to see how my mount looks:

Here is the transmission all cleaned up:

Here is the one issue with the china e3 compressor housing:

If you look closely, you can see the wastegate is put up flush where it's suppose to be bolted. However, the wastegate arm is too long to keep the flapper closed 100%. I'm thinking some spacers on the wg actuator mount will do the trick with some longer bolts.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Any body got any good advice on disc types? This is the disc I'm getting now that I sold my nt transmission:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XTD-6...3A1|240%3A1318

Take note in the sprung center spring retainers. Almost the whole spring is covered so that will hopefully do away with my past problem. 6 puck should hold more power too. I'm just curious on the driveability.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Well, I soon descovered I suck with bondo right now so I'm not going to bother filling all the holes. Instead, I'm painting it and am going to put it together.

I'm just so damn sick of not driving it. Anybody got an oem disc for cheap?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

I would say don't worry about the harshness of a sprung 6 puck. I just got my competition stage 4 clutch working properly (2500 pound pressure plate, sprung ceramic 6 puck disc) and it's only a little more harsh than my old ACT 2600 w/street disc. I actually like this new clutch more than the old ACT setup.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

I'll just get an XTD sprung 6 puck and throw it in. It's the same price as a damn oem disc so what the hell.

I applied the final painting today, and I must say looks spot on, chaps!

I just started un-masking it. I also have a friend of mine sand-blasting my i/c pipes and the water pipe so I can paint those items.

I can't wait for the MN all Mitsu Cookout this year!

Thanks.

I really wanted to do the factory color as best I could. I almost just went straight gloss black but then found out motor parts in town mixes paint to match factory codes. They also compressed it into a spray can so I was set.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

I had today off so I took the wiring harness over to my parents and me and my dad modified it and fixed it up where there were crimp connections we soldered them. I'm mounting the injector resister box thing inside the car on the oposite side of the firewall. That and anything else that needs to be grounded. The MAFT box will sit in my center console, so I just pulled the stock one through. I do also plan to keep the factory heater core and fan setup. I will post pictures when we're all done with it and it's ready to go in.

This car won't know what to do it'll be so fresh. haha
