Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I’m not going to count on an upgraded T-case anymore. The 1G should make it to the MAP proving grounds with a stock transfer case! I just ordered my yoke conversion to adapt a factory case to a HD DSS 3.5” drive shaft. The off the shelf format from DSS is meant to only work with an upgraded T-case.
Now I need to:
· Tear into the motor to take out the BC280 and install the GSC S3’s
· Replace the timing gear and the keyway on the crank since last time the keyway groove was worn.
· Remove the upgraded TX-case that grenaded.
· Install the new fabricated yoke and factory Tcase.
· Street tune WOT (hopefully the cams will help hold power out further in the band)
The car should be running in a week or two, as normal in the nick of time for the event!
I’m sure it will be hot off the street onto the trailer and heading out to BIR.
Happy days again! Just shooting to get one clean pass in, haha.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Awesome. Good luck those GSC S3s are sick, you should be happy with those.
I hope you get more than one clean pass.

I also picked up those cams so it will be good to hear what you think. Obviously my setup isnt the exact same but still cool to see what I can expect.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Driving it up to map in a few minutes to have the nhra chassis inspector check it out. Hopefully it should pass with flying colors. Let me know if you need a hand with your car!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Good thing I decided to do a cam swap, I found 3 of the 5 nuts on my adjustable cam gears were finger tight. The shield plate that attaches to the head had one of the small fasteners ready to fall out. Who knows another couple of miles and the whole motor could have been F’d. Now the cam gears have Locktite Red applied.
The idle is a little rougher, not too bad though. You can physically see the difference in the cams when you set them side by side with the S3’s. The S3’s are monsters. I wish I could have done them when I built the motor, since I’m a little concerned about valve to piston clearance. I’m just going to let her buck and see what happens. I took the car around the block in front wheel drive mode and the tires break free at about 15 psi making the care useless. Now I know why transfer cases take so much abuse, it’s like the front have no aid in the traction department. These 1G’s are closer to rear wheel drives.
Now I just need to get the transfer case in it and tune it up, should be exciting!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Woo! Good to see a few cars getting ready for proving grounds! I'm excited to see you and Kevin both make some passes in this year. We have to have some fast cars around here, seems there's quite a few really quick 1g's nationwide this year.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Most after market pistons have enough room with a 1mm over valve.

Good to know John, I took a compression check after I smoked the front tires to almost 8k. All is good!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I took out the broken transfer case and replaced it with a factory one. Now it's just a matter of some tuning and an oil change to get the new cams dialed in.
Pic of the broken case:
