Re: Project Lex
Most likely the carrier bearing or pinion bearing are going bad. With that much shavings, I'd say the bearings are worn out causing that noise.

Re: Project Lex
So, all that work on the rear calipers was for not. Lesson of the weekend, don't grind calipers down no matter how many people on the internet say they've done it and it's OK, they now leak and are trash
So I'm just going back to my original plan which was to ditch them for some Supra NA rear brakes. SC300 are the smallest, Supra NA are bigger, and TT bigger yet + 2 piston. So while I suppose this is a downgrade from what I had, it's still an upgrade over stock.
So basically here's what the TT rears looked like. So nice, so sad I ruined them
Here's the NA Supra rear rotors for comparison sake. They are damn near the same size, just a hair smaller.
And here they are installed, with the Supra NA single piston rear calipers. Tons of clearance for my 16's now, should have just done this in the first place. Everything just lines up and bolts right up. Will just run them as-is this year. Over the winter I may get around to painting them.

Re: Project Lex
Why did you have to grind down the rear caliper?

Re: Project Lex
The TT ones do not clear 16" wheels. So anyone who wants to run smaller than 17" rims, say for a track setup, either have to run the NA brakes or shave down the TT's a little to clear. Apparently others have shaved them to clear the FD wheels before, but apparently I shaved a little too much. So NA brakes it is.
Anyhow, I also did a little ricer mod. The car was debadged when I got the body work done, but I had this sticker made and threw it on. Figured it might get some people to do a double take

Re: Project Lex
Your rears don't do much of the braking anyway, just roll with it!

Re: Project Lex
Well with the new differential installed, the noise is gone! I had the other differential looked at by MAP, nothing really stood out as being that bad however he did find that the backlash was out of spec by about double. He was able to bring it back within spec. So hopefully at some point here I'll be able to find time to swap it back in to see if that fixed the noise, not sure when that will be though. Until then, I'll just enjoy it with this diff installed for now.

SC300 + Supra font = Win! That's awesome!

The only tuning done thus far is the low throttle / startup stuff that was done at DB post intake install. But working on lining up some WOT stuff.

Re: Project Lex
Doing some ricer lighting mods.
Got the spoiler LED brake light working.
Installed the 4300k HID kit I had laying around since removing it from my Envoy.
Bought some LED's off ebay. White LED's in the license plate area as well as the headlight city lights. They look more blue to me than I would have light, was going for more just pure white. But whatever, looks better than the dull standard bulbs. Also purchased Yellow LED's for the turning lights. I have the blinkders on in the pics so it would turn on and you can see how it looks. They actually look fairly amber in real life which was another disappointment as I was hoping for straight yellow. Looks more yellow in the pics than they do in real life. But whatever, it'll work. I will be rewiring them however so that they just turn on with the parking lights.

Re: Project Lex
That sucks about the calipers. I suppose having the dual piston caliper means you have fluid running around each outer edge. I remember clearancing the hell out of my 2-piston front calipers to run 16's, but of course there's no fluid lines to hit on them.

Re: Project Lex
Long time no update. Hasn't been much to update anyway. But did do some small stuff.
First, I feel like the sound quality coming from the China head unit left a bit to be desired. The aux input plug was becoming intermittent, and the bluetooth streaming was just horrendous, it's like it only streamed treble. So, I picked up a new Sony unit off Amazon for $150. It doesn't have GPS but I never really used that anyway, just use my phone. It does do DVD though, has aux in, USB in, and bluetooth which included a mic. So that is installed, and man everything sounds so much better. So if anyone wants a china unit, I have one up for bid lol.
Also, I had my twin 255's installed but still on stock wiring. So I picked up some relays and did a rewire. I bought a bulkhead stud connector off Summit that seems to work good for passing the power through the tank lid rather than connecting it back to the stock small wiring for passing through that which seems kind of like a waste to go through all that just to have it connect back down to a tiny wire at the end. Can immediately tell they are louder than they used to be. I mounted both relays so I'd have an installed spare in case the one dies. I've never had one die on me before but I've read several stories of relay failures so I figured for how cheap they are why not have one in there ready to rock just in case.
I also did an oil change with some Pennzoil Platinum and a Wix filter. I will be changing out the tranny fluid with some Redline MT-85, then putting some Amsoil in the diff. At that point, take it on a few test drives and then I'll be shipping the car off to Jordan in Florida. Jordan has his own little company called Powersquirt. He's basically a Megasquirt power user, and his specific area of expertise is on 2JZ applications. He has an SC300 himself. He works closely with the developers of MS / TunerStudio. Basically he's the fuckin man when it comes to 2JZ and Megasquirt. He's the one who has been helping me from the very beginning. So none-the-less, I'm going to send the car to him to get tuned, and get any other bugs worked out like the Crank/cam signal noise that keeps popping up. He's doing it all for free, except I'll be paying out the ass to get it shipped.
That's about it for now!
