Re: The Gun Thread

Re: The Gun Thread
I got 900 rounds of 9mm 2 weeks ago for $.36/rd. There are still some good deals out there, you just have to keep a close eye out. They sell out really fast, gunbot is your friend!

Re: The Gun Thread
I am ready to buy a hand gun, wot. The main issue is the demand for them atm is high.
I have shot a few different styles: composite S&W 9mm and 40 s&w, a few different 1911's 22lr, 45 acp, a few different Walter P's, Glock 10mm, a few different SIG's, and a 357 magnum, and a few others.
I have to say I like the SIG the best, if feels right, fits nice in my hand even for a single stack, and I like the controls.
So the few guns I am looking at: SIG 229 in either 9mm or S&W 40, H&K P30/P30L/P2000 in 9mm or S&W 40, and the odd ball a Springfield Armory XD9.
I like the 9mm for mag size and cost of ammo, but as of late 9mm is hard to come by, and I like the extra stopping power of the 40... I suppose after my permit to purchase goes threw it will be more of a mater of whats available.
I think the XD9 would be a good carry gun then look into a SIG/HK further down the road.

SIG229's are double stack, 15 rounds if you're going 9. They're nice. Have you shot one drawing from a holster or tucked in your belt? The double action to single action is hard to get use to. Same with the P30 unless you get the model with a safety and carry it 1911 style, cocked and locked.
I have zero experience with an XD, though. If you want to try a Glock 19 (compact 9mm) you can come to where I shoot in New Hope and try it out.
Also, all of the firearms you listed aren't hard to get anymore. I was at Bills yesterday and they had all of what you mentioned.

Re: The Gun Thread
I was in Capra's in Blaine on Friday and they had a ton of stuff in stock too. I would recommend renting the gun you are thinking about at Bill's before you commit now that things are calming down again. If you want something small an LC9 like AJ has might work good or I have the next size up, the Ruger SR9c. It is still thinner than most compact 9's by 1/4". Do a lot of reading, nothing is perfect, but some have more major issues than others.

I would take into consideration what's the main purpose of the gun. Is it going to be a home defense gun or a carry gun? Home defense I'd say you're fine with a full size of any caliber you choose. If it's a carry gun you'll probably want something lighter and more compact. I carry a Glock 36 with an extended mag. It's a single stack .45acp. I went with the 45 cause it has plenty of stopping power plus is a slower moving round and less likely to go through and through.
I've owned a couple sigs they are awesome guns you can never go wrong with a Sig. I agree with jet. Rent a bunch of guns and try them out before you buy one. That's what I did before I bought my Glock. Also if you want to give my Glock a whirl you're more than welcome too.

Re: The Gun Thread
Thanks for the advice, at the moment I am thinking home defence. But I am still throwing around the idea of a CCW.
I think a double stack or wider gun fits my hand better, but bulk is a concern for CCW.
If I go SIG I will just hold it and buy it, no need to rent.
I plan to rent a H&K and a XD9 or similar with CCW in mind.

Re: The Gun Thread
People worry too much about size when carrying. It is easy enough to hide a fullsize doublestack pistol on your person and be very comfortable.
It's all about the holster.

Re: The Gun Thread
Ryan and I went to Bills and rented a H&K p30 v3 40s&w.
Man this gun for a 40 shot like a 9mm for me, just a little more kick but not bad.
So I put money down in a H&K p30 v2 40s&w with the LEM trigger with 2 13 round mags.

Re: The Gun Thread
Got a new scope dialed in and a foregrip.
Ruger MKII, super accurate pistol. .22lr obviously. Kinda nice they both use the same ammo.
Car is about 60 yards away, 10x50 Scope.
I think I need a bipod, I get too much sway when I try to shoot anything more than 25 yards away lol. Don't mind the straggler on the left
Bills, circle pines, all the way back. 50 yards. This is the small target by the way, 10x10" paper.

Re: The Gun Thread
The FedEx man stopped by about 30 minutes ago with my upper from Palmetto State Armory! Finally! Put it all together and you get...
I guess it'll just be pretty to look at for now, no money for .223/5.56. Oh well, I'll get to shoot it this summer I guess. Pretty happy with it though, building my first AR wasn't nearly as hard as I thought.

Re: The Gun Thread
I picked this up tonight after work, and I have my CCW cert. I think every employee at Bills had to play with the gun, there like dam a p30 with the LEM trigger, a must have. I am itching to shoot it, I have a free lane rental for 2 people, plus free gun rental good for when ever. What to rent now is the question.
I picked up a electric drawer safe, so when the gun is not on me it will be secure, and easy to access.
It came with 2 13 round clips and the grip is adjustable, small medium and large side panels and back straps, I think I am going to run the large side panels and small back strap, we shall see what works best for me.
Also H&K sends a spent shell casing with the gun, its the test shot for the gun.
I asked the guys if there was a break in period for the gun, and he said "just shoot the crap out of the gun, clean it after a few hundred rounds if you want."

Re: The Gun Thread
What to rent? Desert eagle 50cal lol. The judge is fun to rent or a nice 1911. Or if they still have it to rent a scar 16s. That was a lot of fun to shoot!

Re: The Gun Thread
I just went to Joe's Sporting Goods off of Rice St and 36, and they had some 5.56 PMC X-Tac, 20 for $8.99, 2 box limit. Good deal. Also had G.I. 30rd AR mags for $20 each, and Thermold AR 30 and 20 rd mags for $10 each.
