No, I was in some serious mountains, 7% grade +. The truck did great once out of the mountains. Like Enes said, be careful braking. You are going to pretty much double the weight of the truck. It is only really an issue in the mountains, all that weight pushing you down the hill really taxes the brakes. If it is pretty flat you shouldn't have a problem.

Cher is going to use my dolly, too. I hooked him up

Yeah, I am sure it won't be awesome towing in the mountains, but oh well. What a guy to hook Cher up, save the kid some cash.

Oh, and Enes, it is braking, not breaking.

If it was me, I'd look into lemon laws. Not sure how that would work since the other party is in another state

Buuuuut. You will look back on this as either being funny, or a big mistake and a learning experience.

P.S. 1/2 your photos don't show up.

Re: - SC300 + money - DSM = holy USA trip! **56 warning Pics**

Screw that... My S-10 pulled a 95 AWD Talon from Chicago to Winona with ease and I only have a 4cyl. The car and trailer weighted twice as much as the truck did. Didnt have any problems accelerating or braking so with a 4.3l V6 you should be just fine. Although if the truck is an auto you have a chance at the tranny going out pulling that much weight. If it is, I wouldnt pull that car up the mountains, just to be on the safe side.

Good luck man. Hope the trip goes well!

Re: - SC300 + money - DSM = holy USA trip! **56 warning Pics**

Cher- which way you taking back? When I drove back through there on way back from San Fran i can't remember too many bad hills. The bad hills seemed to be farther west if i can remember. We took I-80 back over into Wyoming then straight up to Gillette, WY and then over to the Black Hills. Beautiful country, i'd do it again. Wyoming is a huge state, took about 1/2 day to cover it. You might have other ways back but that's the way we took and the roads were good.

PS- Does the S-10 have an external tranny oil cooler? Probably not a bad idea to put one on if it don't. Just make a list of everything you could possibly need. Take various tools, jug or two antifreeze, quart or two of oil, etc.. There is a whole lot of nothing out there. Can go awhile without seeing a car.

Re: - SC300 + money - DSM = holy USA trip! **56 warning Pics**

Hey hey, it wasn't my idea. It was 91nbtsi's (Nate Burgess') . I guess he said it'd be fine. It's a 2002 S10 4.3L V6 and we're only using a dolly as we disconnect the driveshaft from the car and towing it FWD so there is less stress on the car. I guess Nate hasn't had any issues towing with his truck before... again; wasn't my idea but the dolly is now reserved. It's gonna be one lonnng weekend. At least the dsm is light, it's only 2650# so that'll help a bit.

OnefastGSX: We're gonna take the I80 route 1000+ miles all the way to 35.

Thanks; Mapquest said 18-19 hours, so probably... like 16-17 the way there and 18-19 on the way back.

key is not about power.. key is weight, you don't want something heavy on the back of the light truck...

Good luck with the adventure, just know one thing, Break Early! stay in a lane that has a clear exit/escape...

Don't stay on the brakes either, get on them, let them cool off, then back on again. Of course downshift too for engine braking, but I am sure you knew all of that.

Good luck Cher. Make sure you turn your A/C off when you are climbing the hills. You need every little HP you can squeeze out of that truck on hill climbs. Can't wait for you to get the car back. It looks sweet.

good luck guys, please don't total 2 vehicles on the way home.
Like mentioned, brake early, brake often, and don't ride them. Be careful.

This coming from someone who constantly rode everyones ass, slammes on the breaks and turns at the VERY last second
